Challenge Start: Now
Challenge End: 9/16 EOD

Description: I have recently picked up a copy of Mint Works and what better way to learn it than to host a challenge. Come see if you can beat Mort.

Post your results *in this thread*. Feel free to just link to your SGOYT entry but I won't be monitoring SGOYT for the results directly.

Setup:
Setup per solitaire rules. Add Crowdfunder as the advanced location
Wholesaler and Plant are the starting plans

Scoring:
Final score = Number of your stars - Number of AI stars
Highest final score wins
Most mints remaining is tie breaker.

Example:
You get 7 stars;
AI gets 4 stars
Final score = 7 - 4 = 3

I figure it is just fun to play against others. Let me know if I missed anything or if you have questions. Good Luck.

Thanks for this challenge! I needed to get this back to the table, too.

I tried it several times, and the best I could do is beat Mort by four points -- three times!

Game 1
My score: 7
Mort: 3
Final score: 4

Game 2
My score: 10
Mort: 6
Final score: 4

Game 3
My score: 7
Mort: 3
Final score: 4

Perhaps I'll try again before the deadline. Thanks again, it was fun!

EDIT: As was pointed out to me, Mort can't buy Production plans, so I cheated in every game! And maybe would have done better (or worse), so all my scores can be removed from the challenge. laugh Next time I'll try reading the AI's characteristics a little more thoroughly!

Thanks for running this solo challenge. I have almost none of the games that people seem to create challenges for, so this made me happy.

I got lucky and there was a string of four production plans in a row almost immediately, which prevented Mort from doing much of anything.

My score = 7
Mort's score = 1

6 points as well

EDIT: My mistake - I had only 6 points so the game was not over. Thankfully with the screenshot I could recreate the game at this stage and finish it.

Mort made a bit of a comeback in the last round:

My score = 7 (for real this time)
Mort's score = 3

FINAL SCORE = 4 points

I dont understand why you count 7 star when you score a total of 6 star

So you make 5 points total not 6

The Green build count as two but dont have any star

You're absolutely correct. I blame the fact that I had just woken up a little bit before playing!

I got quite lucky because the engine-type plans kept coming up and Mort could not buy anything.

My score: 11 points
Mort: 5 points

Final score: 6

Thanks for the challenge!

I got lucky when two production plans came out helping me manage Mort a bit. He's a nice laid back opponent, but let him turn on the tap and it's hard to keep up.

Me = 9
Mort = 1

Score = 8

Thanks for the challenge, it was a lovely way to get back into the old solo gaming and reminded me what a cool little game this is.

Hi Marit, am I reading your photos right? It looks like Mort built a production plan (i.e. the red plans) on some of your pics but his AI states that he won't buy production plans. Maybe it's just my eyes though.

i break the game...sorry lol

using wholesaler + corporate HQ + crowdfunder + 11 plans give me enough mints to always by two plants, leaving Mort just gathering more and more mints.

I just wait the vault appears to close the game

Henrique's impressive performance inspired me to take another shot. Mort grabbed the Vault on the first turn, so that strategy was out. But I was able to get the Wholesaler deed quickly and between that, Stripmine, Crowdfunder, and Corporate HQ, I was able to start generating a good amount of mints each turn.

My score: 11
Mort's score: 3
FINAL SCORE: 8

Thanks again for the challenge!

I'd been wanting to get this out again and finally had time for a couple games this weekend. What comes out first on the shuffle definitely affects the options and strategy available.

On my first game the Assembler was the first card to flip after buying the Wholesaler and there was no way I could block Mort from buying and building it.

My score: 10
Mort's score: 4
FINAL SCORE: 6

I'll load photo's later (my phone doesn't take very good photo's)

Game 2: I was able to follow Henrique's stratagy this time and block Mort from the Supplier. Corporate HQ never came out but I did get the Stripmine early for funding, I was never rich but always had just enough. Building plans and Neighborhood are in the order purchased and built.

My score: 24
Mort's score: 0
FINAL SCORE: 24

Game 3:
The Vault was the first card flipped and again I couldn't block Mort at that point throwing Henrique's strategy out and the challenge now was to see what I could score without the Vault. To building plans without victory points to finance Corporate HQ without triggering End Game. The Culture cards offset building the Landfill, the production cards were late showing up. Factory was the final card to be flipped so Mort couldn't have purchased a plan anyway in the final round, bought it even though I knew I wouldn't build it. With no deck left I built my final two buildings: Museum and Obelisk for 10 pts each.

My score: 23
Mort's score: 0
FINAL SCORE: 23

I didn't write down how much '$' I had at the end but it was around 30 in the stacks on my card.

Looking like my high score (for this challenge) of 4 isn't going to hold. Impressive working of the system.

I thought I was in trouble early when Mort scored the Gardens and then collected the Gallery plans so I had to do everything I could to tie up the Builder slots so he couldn't get it into his neighbourhood. An early Stripmine helped immensely.

Final Score: Me 9, Mort 6 so a score of 3.

Thanks for putting up the challenge. Haven't played this in quite a while after backing it on KS.

Thanks for the challenge. It pushed me to learn the game after having it for a few months.

Final Score: Me 9 - Mort 4 = 5. Played incorrectly I'll take that!

I'm assuming since Mort won't buy plans with the gear symbol, leaving the supply full of gear plans meant I could use Lotto first every turn and block Mort from building...

Thanks again.
