I will be in Los Angeles over the weekend and will have a few free hours on Saturday afternoon. Is there a good game store in LA that you would recommend checking out?

I don't really know LA, but I'll be in the Echo Park area and I'll have a car.

Any suggestions?

I'd suggest the Last Grenadier:

820 N Hollywood Way
Burbank, CA 91505

You will not be too far from Pasadena, where you can find the very cool Game Empire on Colorado Blvd. There are often game events there and they have a great space. Check them out at:

www.gameempirepasadena.com

You can find more general events on: www.socalgamers.info. To bad you weren't here last week - you missed SoCalGamesday!

Hope this helps. I wrote down the places and some info on them. A lot of them are strictly card shops however.

If you want a good variety, I suggest Game Empire or All Ways Gaming. However, they might be far.

Perhaps you could try out Westwood, Knightware or Grenadier.

In addition to the stores listed above, there is also:

All Ways Gaming
21032 Devonshire St.
Chatsworth, CA 91311
(818) 886-4263 (GAME)

Good stock, good service, spotty hours.

Knight Ware
3709 Cahuenga Blvd.
Studio City, CA 91604
(818) 769-7830

Fair stock, friendly staff, a bit cramped and cluttered, but probably the closest store to Echo Park.

Games of Westwood has been out of business for almost 10 years, now. I was a regular there when I was attending UCLA. But they went under 2-3 years after I graduated.

From what I remember hearing, they are scheduling a boardgame day at Game Empire this Saturday. It'll be a great opportunity to get in a game or two of a favorite, or to learn something someone else has brought along.
