I recently found a D6 in a bucket of miscellaneous dice. It wasn't the usual numbered kind, or any other specialty die that I am familiar with. Naturally, I had to buy it. The sides were:
Black Square
Purple Star (Asterisk *)
Orange Triangle
Dark Blue 'K'
Red Dumbbell (? o-o)
Green 'Q'

Do these symbols have some special meaning? Are they required for some occult ritual? Is this die the product of some unholy union between Candy Land and Lucky Charms? Someone out there must know!

I've asked the same question before about this die but never got a reply.
I think someelse here in BGG also asked about it unsucessfully.

It's the one on the left in this picture:

Someone must know ...

I saw it briefly, and it was a match for my mystery die. I'll try to take and upload some pictures this evening.

This picture, while not great, is at least clear enough.

I'm not convinced that it's even a proper component of a board game. The store I found it at was a dollar store, which is not the type of place one would expect to find stray game pieces unless there was a torn copy of the game nearby.

Surely the community that can raise Monkey Auto Races to the top of the charts can identify one unusual die.

I got mine from another dice collector (who didn't know what it was for), but I also saw it earlier this year in a game shop in Canada - they were being sold as loose dice. The store staff didn't know what it was for either.

Never seen this before in my life ... but
A triangle is half a square.
The circle with a line is half of a dumbell
The 'picnic table' thingy is half of an asterisk

(I know this does't identify the game, but I just thought it was an interesting observation!)

I bought one of these dice as well. I posted a picture of it and Mano Kapazoglu (User ID Kapazoglu) pointed out that the symbols are Astrological Aspect symbols. They represent the relative positions of the Sun, Moon and planets in the sky. So we still don't know what game this is from (if it's from a game) but we know what the symbols mean.

I don't want happiness by halves, nor is half of sorrow what I want. Yet there's a pillow I would share, where gently pressed against a cheek like a helpless star, a falling star, a ring glimmers on the finger of a hand.

I don't know what the die is from but one thing I do know is that I've never seen these bunch of geeks bested by a question like this. Sooner or later someone will get it. You could even offer a gg reward (if you're that desperate!)

first time I saw this I thought some of the symbols looked like Magic Realm characters symbols. We have the dwarf, the elf, the sorceror, and maybe the black knight, and the magician. The only one that doesn't make sense is the square... and it doesn't make sense in the context of the game, if only because the number of characters in the game is sixteen.

Green Circle with Tab = 1
Two circles = 2
Triangle = 3
Square = 4
underlined V (not a 'k') = 5
Six pointed star (asterisk) = 6

Why the symbols?
Maybe some people are Pipophobes.

???

But in that case, the 1 is not opposite the 6 and the 2 is not opposite the 5. They are arranged wrong to be the system you give.

Right, nobody would ever dare to create a die that crazy. There are rules for these things for a reason.

I think I have it!!!!!

I believe these are the "RuneDice" from a Ravenloft expansion.
They came with a deck of RuneCards.
(I dealt myself 5 of those cards. I got a full house and my plant died!!)

We just need a D&D expert to confirm.

Some of the symbols are the same as those used to represent 'Aspects' in astrology.

Maybe their used by those nitwits who write the daily horoscopes?

I guess it's a sign of OCD or some such, but it drives me nuts when I see a die with the faces arrange wrong. It's pretty rare, but you do see "wrong" dice like that from time to time.

I can't help with the game identification, but matthew[great avatar]geom appears to have correctly identified the nature of the die.

From the pictures supplied by mr.codepoet and by dbucak, it is apparent that matthewgeom's symbol pairs are on opposite sides of the die.

However, the designer of the die should have depicted an isosceles right angle triangle rather than an equilateral triangle.

I think we finally have an answer!

Based on the post from kapazoglu in this thread, it's apparent that the symbols represent Astrological Aspects. MrZoz had the right idea; these symbols can be used to represent the numbers from 1-6.

Why this die would be made, and why it appeared at 5 Below, the world may never know. I mean, not even the people at Wikipedia know, and they know everything.

At least it'll serve as a regular d6 once you get used to it. That is, unless someone has any suggestions for an astrology themed game? "Uh, oh. Looks like Jupiter is in opposition with Mars. You only get one action this turn."

Did you by any chance buy them from a mysterious old Asian man who ran a cluttered curio shop, and stressed "no refunds"? Did he laugh maniacally as he rang you up, warning you to be careful what you wish for?

If you roll three triangles in a single roll, Beelzebub will explode into this realm and make us all his eternal slaves. That's my guess.

I'm pretty sure that it is from a role playing game. I think it is, as mentioned before, from a Ravenloft supplement. I remember one of the guys in our group had it but, who and why, I don't remember.
