The best is Game Chest. The original store in in Valley View mall on 635, and their new store is north off of 75.

Second best that I know of is GenX Comics in Euless. Trailing that is the Lone Star stores in various places, headquartered in Arlington.

You will find that the Game Chest, while it has a good selection,
doesn't have any discounts. I believe they had only one sale in living
memory.

An alternative is Madness Comics in Plano. SW corner of
Custer and Parker Rd (near a Subways).

They are mainly comic stores, but the owner has taken
suggestions from several of the Dallas Gamers
and tends to have a lot of good, even recent games.
He's been getting the games as they come out, for
example, selling lots and lots and lots of Race for the Galaxy.
I believe he now has a buy-two get one free sale on.

A subset of the Dallas Gamers meets there on Saturday evenings,
and people are welcome to join us, at 7PM.

It was on for the holiday season in 2009. I believe it is off now, but I would expect it back on after Thanksgiving 2010.

Stupid people got me to buy more Heroclix!

Madness Games is my favorite for board games in Plano. They tend to be secretive as to when their next buy 2 get 1 sale is going to be, but in the past they have had one that stretches from Thanksgiving to New Years. I think they also usually have one around "Free Comic Book Day" which is fun because they also tend to have guys in authentic looking Star Wars costumes walking around outside pulling in customers. Someone correct me if I am wrong about the sale during Free Comic Book Day, but I seem to remember a buy 2 get 1 sale in late Spring / early Summer.

It is important to note that unless their plans have changed, Madness Games will be moving across the street to somewhere behind the burger joint (Wendy's?). That will be the SE corner of the intersection.

Madness Games even showed up at the last Project A-Kon (Dallas anime convention) with a buy 2 get 1 free sale. They even had special d6 dice made up for the convention which was pretty cool.

As others mentioned, the Game Chest on 635 in the Valley View Mall is also worth a look. Since Game Chest focuses on games, they tend to have a bigger selection since they also have a lot of the older stuff.

They are definitely moving. The new store is marked and it is scheduled to move in February if I remember what we were told.

Just got back to Albuquerque, NM from visiting Plano TX and of course Madness Games & Comics. I can confirm they are planning on moving, but it's still in the same plaza area (same parking lot.) It's a bigger space, so I assume they are expanding.

Got to say this is a really nice store, tons of board games, MtG, Miniatures (oh yeah, comics too.) My previous high-water mark had been "The Source" in Minnesota, but Madness I think is larger and has more variety of board games.

Check it out if you're in the area, you won't be sorry!

Agreed, Madness is one of the best stores I've been to. I didn't know they were moving but I'm assuming their new place will be just as good.

David,

Madness will be using the space on the opposite side of the shopping center (formerly Pizza Planet). So, it's in the same shopping center. Just now on the other side of Wal-Mart.

They have been posting pictures to the Madness Facebook page as the new store progresses:

https://www.facebook.com/madnessgames

The space will be large enough to consolidate both the main store and the Game Center under one roof.

Cool, thanks for pointing that out. My friend in Dallas that I stay with sometimes is somewhat close to there so I'm glad it's not going far.

I live 15 minutes from Gen X Comics, and it is a great store!

I always keep my eyes open for other game store store to try to find other players. I have looked for Game Chest, and can't find it. Is it still open?

Edit: Never mind, I found out Game Chest closed years ago.

If you are looking for other players, Madness Games and Comics hosts boardgaming every Saturday afternoon and evenings in Plano. And it's all free. There is a BGG Guild for the store listing the games that have been played over the past three years:

That sound like fun. Is it Bring Your own Game (BYOG), or do you have to use store copies, or both?

I can probably be there for 5pm tonight.

Most of us bring 3-5 games, so we will have plenty of games to choose from. Look for the boardgaming crowd in the Madness Game Center two doors down from the main store.
