The trade is at:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/28565

Please read and study the information contained therein. There will be a test.*

I don't know if it's tradition, but the request GeekList is at:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/28566

Please keep your discussions confined to this thread unless you are commenting specifically on an entry--in that case, please comment directly on the GeekList item.

Thank you for your participation. I hope to make this a most enjoyable trade for everyone.

This is my first time running a math trade. Don't kill me!

Re: GenghisCon 2008 No Shipping Math Trade Discussion Thread
The summary is at:

NO WHERE YET!

First, everyone needs to take a look at the summary. Only the summary posted at the above URL will be considered official. That is, while Jeff's tool will almost certainly have the correct data, it's my job as moderator to have a single "official" list; the one on my Web site is it.

However, please feel absolutely confident in using Jeff's OLWLG; it's the tool I personally use to compose my want lists.

So, how do I expect lists to be submitted? I'll explain by way of example:

(carl67lp) 0001-MACHE : 0041-THEBE 1710-THEBE

(carl67lp) 0002-THROU : 0041-THEBE 1710-THEBE

First is your BGG username in parentheses. Then comes your item number. Next is a colon. Finally is the list of items that you would like to receive for your own item.

Each item should follow this format, so make sure you have the username and colon in each case.

Between each item you should have a blank line, like I do above. This will help to prevent errors in copying and pasting.

Use Jeff's OLWLG for faster, more reliable results. It's mandatory. At least, it makes my life easier.

Re: GenghisCon 2008 No Shipping Math Trade Discussion Thread
OFFICIAL WANT LIST
HOWEVER, you should IGNORE this list!
as you will be using the online tool.

You will not send me a geekmail. You will use the online want list generator. There is a long tutorial at:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/2053073

You need to search for "OLWLG (OnLine Want List Generator) (by JeffyJeff)"

It involves getting a login, signing in, selecting items, and then submitting a want list with that tool. Again, nothing comes to me. I will pull the information from that online tool.

Thanks Sterling for running this.

I really like the idea of requiring the use of Jeff's tool as well. It may be tough to use the first time, but is an incredible tool, that I've used since he first published it. I wish I was a bit better at explaining things so I could help those of you that haven't used it before, but don't be intimidated by it. There are many others who have used it and we can all try to help you.

It might be worth it to list information along the lines of:

Whether you will be attending the Con or not

Whether you can ferry games to the Con and how many

Whether you will be attending other game events between Friday Feb. 8th and and the official handoff day of Feb. 16th at the Con. Paul and Julie are hosting on the 9th, the DenverGames Borders session is the 12th and Tim Comfort is hosting on the 16th. I'm sure there are others. Maybe get a list generated if you are aware of more so people can make arrangements.
Good idea.

I am attending the con Sat and Sun, I am running about 15-20 events.

I am having my regular game day, 1st Sat of the month, Feb 2, at my place. I can bring stuff to the con if people would like it.

Re: GenghisCon 2008 No Shipping Math Trade Discussion Thread
Can someone explain how duplicate protection works? I've done a lot of math trades but none in quite a while. It seems they have evolved a bit since I last was involved in one. I looked through the wiki for an explanation but was a bit confused was referring to the moderator or the submitter of the want list. Does the person submitting the want list have to do anything to their submission list for duplicate protection or are the instructions referring to the moderator submitting the want list to TradeMaximizer?

And speaking of want lists, should we use colons and usernames in our want list submissions?

Can someone explain how duplicate protection works? I've done a lot of math trades but none in quite a while. It seems they have evolved a bit since I last was involved in one. I looked through the wiki for an explanation but was a bit confused was referring to the moderator or the submitter of the want list. Does the person submitting the want list have to do anything to their submission list for duplicate protection or are the instructions referring to the moderator submitting the want list to TradeMaximizer?
You must do all the work for the duplicate protection when you do your want list with the tool. What you need to do in the tool is to create a duplicate protection entry. What I will see will come out like this:

%AllRas JoesRa SamsRa JohnsRa FranksRa

MyGame1 %AllRas

MyGame2 %AllRas

But really, you will not create all that. The tool will do it for you. You just select to create duplicate protection, and create %AllRas. Then you click on each of JoesRa SamsRa JohnsRa FranksRa under %AllRas, and then indicate that you would trade your MyGame1 or MyGame2 for the AllRas entry.

And speaking of want lists, should we use colons and usernames in our want list submissions?
Yes, they will be there and required, but the OLWLG will create all that. You will not be emailing me a list.

Re: GenghisCon 2008 No Shipping Math Trade Discussion Thread
Everyone needs to be aware that I have REQUIRED people to use the online want list generator! It really is overwhelming to get your login and start using the tool, so get started EARLY figuring it out. Once you get the feel for it, it really is amazing. But you do need to try it out as soon as it is available, which is now!

Get your login. Go use the tool NOW. Go check out step 4 NOW. See how it looks. PLAY around with it for a while before you ask too many questions.

I require the use of it because it checks for many errors, it automates the submission, and it really is easier to use once you understand it.

P.S. Holy Cow! This list is already in the tool with the first 51 items! Way to go JeffyJeff!!

http://activityclub.org/bgg/viewlist.cgi?listid=28565

Quick How to:

- Get your login

- Go to the listing page

- Click Add for each item you want, and check off each item you are willing to trade for it.

- Go to Step 4, and try to understand how you find tune your selections, including duplicate protection!

Quoting from other thread (I hope Richard does not mind!):

The advantages of the OLWLG for me:

(1) The entire geeklist on one page. Yea, it's a long page, but no scrolling back and forth for me. Just up and down. With the images replaced by expandable icons, easier to scan up and down also.

(2) Color coding It is real nice to see games I own in blue highlight. Games on my want list in green highlight. Games on my wish list in yellow highlight. Since I keep these lists up to date, it makes scanning the single page (see advantage 1) a bit of a snap as I need only scan for the appropriate colors.

(3) List is "live" while games being entered I can work on my want while games are still being entered to the geeklist. While it isn't live updates, it is frequent enough that by the time the list closes, 80% of my work is done. I just need to scan through the list one more time and hit submit.

(4) Automatic Submissions ... the submission option makes it even easier as I don't have to worry about a bad line break getting inserted due to a cut&paste error. Also new ... - better duplicate protection error warnings.

I also was a bit intimidated with the tool at first and would make hand lists (especially as my want lists can be small). But once I learned the tool, it has made these math trades very easy and a lot less time consuming.

Re: GenghisCon 2008 No Shipping Math Trade Discussion Thread
I just remembered an easy way to look up who has games that you are interested in trading for. This is one of the features of the guilds on BGG. Currently the DenverGames guild has 38 people signed up. One of the nice features of a guild page is the ability to search the combined collection of all members of a guild. You can type in a game you are interested in and it will show you each member that owns the game, who has the game up for trade, who wants the game in trade in addition to members comments and ratings. Very useful for a math trade like this. The page currently isn't really used for anything else so we might as well use it for math trades. If you are not signed up go here:

If anyone plans on altering their submissions that already appear on the list (sweeteners, version etc) then it'd be a good idea to post a quick note here that you've done that so everyone knows to check the update.

Re: GenghisCon 2008 No Shipping Math Trade Discussion Thread
I am seeing a number of submissions that say "Not attending the con, but will get the game to Borders." Remember that you are responsible for making sure you have a representative bring it to the con if needed.

Oh, and a note: Any tips given to me will be passed on to JeffyJeff for his want list tool. Since it is doing all the work.

Now if I can just figure out how to create a summary of the list. . . .

Ok, I'm kinda lost... How do I enter my wants? Can you walk me through or is this the part where I beg to submit by geek mail?
You will not send me a geekmail. You will use the online want list generator. There is a long tutorial at:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/2053073

You need to search for "OLWLG (OnLine Want List Generator) (by JeffyJeff)"

It involves getting a login, signing in, selecting items, and then submitting a want list with that tool. Again, nothing comes to me. I will pull the information from that online tool.

I purged that one from my collection a while ago. As I recall, I got a fantastic trade, getting RK's Samurai for it.

I've got a copy of Super Munchkin (Super-hero themed rather than D&D) I can bring to Sterling's next party if you'd like. It's not an awful game, though not a great one either
