You are coming a long way (from Sweden) to visit a game store I'm guessing you are visiting UNH (my ala mater)?

I don't know any in Durham or that near Durham myself, but if you'll have a car there's Game Castle in Londonderry and Myraid in Salem.

If you are looking to buy games to bring back to Sweden, you may be better (both prices and selection) ordering online ahead of time and having them delivered to where you'll be staying.

Also Jump Gate in Portsmouth - however they are more of a comics shop and their selection of board games is on the small side.

Myriad Games in Salem has a nice selection, very friendly staff and a clean and nice store to play games in.

Correct; I'm going to visit UNH, or rather http://www.sipit.net/ which takes place on their premises.

I'm hoping to get some games to bring home since the US peso is currently cheap. ;-) Since I'm staying in a hotel and you have major terrorist scare I suspect that they don't like mail that gets delivered before I actually get there.

Note though if you view their online "catalog" that it's not what they stock.... though they do stock a decent sized selection for a FLGS

Game Castle's (in Londonderry) website btw is at http://www.thegamecastle.com/

cool, nice to see UNH hosting such events, especially since I'm a CS grad from UNH, though I don't think UNH has any DECSystem-10's anymore

Looks like your event is April 13th to the 18th... you should consider staying that weekend as your timing lines right up for Econo Con, see http://oz.plymouth.edu/~psugaming/?page_id=17

The email annoucement I received says:
Quote:
April 19&20 ... $10 for the entire weekend.

One large room dedicated to open boardgaming with plenty of people to
play games with. Also CCG and RPG gaming available.

Very friendly and relaxed boardgaming. We will host a Pitch Car
tournament as well.

I haven't been before myself, but I'm considering it this year. Actually Preston is the one who sent the message I received (UG list) so I'm sure he can answer any questions about it.

In any case, if you time your order you could have it arrive during your stay. I almost did something similiar when a friend was going to Germany. Though the deal breaker was what the airlines charges for the excess luggage would have come out to be, that it didn't save much if any on the shipping. You may actually want to check to see how much the shipping would be from a USA online retailer that ships internationally directly to Sweden. The savings you get from the online discounters may more than offset the shipping, compared to paying full price at a local FLGS and the hassle of trying to pack it and possibly paying for excess luggage or going over the luggage weight limits.

Of course if you are only planning to buy 1 or 2 games that could be a different story.

Also another alternative to having an online order shipped to your hotel is someone here may be willing to have it sent to them if you don't mind and are able to come pick it up. I may even be willing, but I'm about an hour from Durham (about the same drive as it would be to Londonderry or Salem as my town is between both of those) and you could possibly find someone closer. Unless of course you plan to attend Econo Con then anyone going could help.

The con would be nice, but I've already booked my return trip (and I suspect my colleague wouldn't be interested). Also, I was to another con just recently and plan for another one soon after.

I'm also another UNH graduate(I was CS then switched to technical theatre...). I'd recommend if you have the time(and depending on where you're flying out of) checking out some gaming stores in Boston. Here are the

There is The Games People Play(http://thesourceofcourse.com/tgpp/) in Harvard Square in Cambridge(a town that is basically part of Boston), tons of board games. It is on the Red Line(you'd get off at the Harvard Square stop and walk for about five minutes).

Pandemonium Books(http://www.pandemoniumbooks.com/): This is near Games People Play, in Central Square in Cambridge. It has more RPGs and Sci-Fi/Fantasy books then boardgames but also has a good selection of miniatures. It is in walking distance from Games People Play. It too is on the Red Line(central square stop).

The Compleat Strategist(http://www.thecompleatstrategist.com/): This has an even mix of RPGs/Board Games/Miniatures. Its in Boston and actually on the same bus line as the other two stores(the #1).

Your Move Games(http://somerville.yourmovegames.com/index.html): Is in Somerville, another town abutting both Cambridge/Boston. They have a good mix of games like miniatures/board games/rpgs, as well as some games that they self publish. It is also on the Red Line(Davis Square stop which is a few stops farther out then Harvard & Central).

Those stores might be more convenient for you if you're flying in/out of Boston and have some time in the city. Also while in the Durham/Portsmouth area, I would check out The Friendly Toast in Portsmouth for some good grubby diner style American food, as well as the Red Hook Brewery if you're into beer at all...
