I haven't played for a while, but I wanted to make some progress toward the Dearlove/Jowjow challenge and since Hoax is the last deck I have yet to play with Mimix I figured it'd be a good time to kick it out. Let this serve as an example for those who think Hoax is easy to beat.

Fight 1:

Mimix plays Cardus Nikkus.
Hoax moves Ledinemras the Monk to discard pile.
Mimix announces 2 earth.
Hoax plays Demegodas the Odd.
Hoax announces 2 earth.
Mimix plays Young Fox.
Mimix plays Sun Setting.
Mimix plays Whirling Hatchet.
Mimix announces 6 earth.
Hoax retreats.
Mimix attracts 1 dragon. (Mimix 1, Hoax 0)

Once I got rid of Ledinemras I thought about starting the fight in fire (since Led is 4 fire), but with Hoax being weaker in earth and my hand being slightly better in earth as well I led there instead. Hoax has so many weapons that I didn't expect to win any fight without expending a support card of some kind, but I guess 6e was good enough. In almost every one of my games up to this one, the AI had answers for EVERYTHING I threw. In fact, in most of those games I didn't even win a fight. Good start here.

Here's where it gets crazy:

Fight 2:

Hoax plays Zedemikras the Brain.
Hoax announces 4 fire.
Mimix plays Shaman of the Holy Sacrifice.
Mimix plays Moon Rising.
Mimix plays Stars Shining.
Mimix announces 4 fire.

(needed the hand boost from this or else I wouldn't have thrown the free characters)

Mimix takes Menacing Wardance into hand.
Mimix takes Pulsating Shockwave into hand.

(awesome draw)

Mimix takes NoProblem into hand.
Mimix moves NoProblem to discard pile.

(and awesome discard!)

Hoax plays Wogarathoras the Gloomy.
Hoax plays Ballista of Confusion.
Hoax announces 6 fire.
Mimix plays Dancer of Dawn.
Mimix plays Pulsating Shockwave.
Mimix announces 6 fire.
Hoax plays Athradysas the Seeker.
Hoax announces 6 fire.
Mimix plays Amazon Leaping High.
Mimix announces 6 fire.
Hoax plays Hank Highflyer Hawk.
Hoax plays Trebuchet of Fear.
Hoax announces 3 fire.
Mimix plays Call Spirit of the Battlefield.
Mimix retrieves Amazon Leaping High.
Mimix plays Amazon Leaping High.
Mimix plays Menacing Wardance.
Mimix announces 4 fire.

(Hated having to blow Spirit here but I didn't have any characters remaining that would allow me to match)

Hoax plays Nirwadas the Traveler.
Hoax plays Battling Boomerang.
Hoax announces 8 fire.
Mimix plays Call Spirit of the Underworld.
Mimix takes Sun Setting into hand.
Mimix plays Virgin of Pure Fire.
Mimix plays Sun Setting.
Mimix plays Hypnotic Rattle.
Mimix announces 12 fire.
Hoax retrieves Battling Boomerang.
Hoax retreats.
Mimix attracts 2 dragons. (Mimix 3, Hoax 0)

Blew the second Spirit card just to get the extra 2 fire from "Sun Setting", plus prevented repeat play of Boomerang. Somehow it was enough, but at what cost? I'm up 3-0, but both Spirit leaderships, all three free characters, and all my supports are gone, in exchange for Hank Highflyer Hawk, the Trebuchet and Ballista supports, and Hoax's two strongest fire characters. That's the difficulty with this matchup. Hoax has SO many strong cards that Mimix has no way to remove or nullify. I managed to pull a few here, but killers like Brain Drain, Tome of Wisdom, Ciklarethas the Bitter, Sarogakanas the Ancient, and others are still all waiting out there to trip me up.

Fight 3:

Hoax plays Thirkomedas the Serene.
Hoax announces 2 earth.
Mimix plays Wild Gazelle.
Mimix plays Wild Antelope.
Mimix announces 6 earth.
Hoax plays Catusan.
Hoax plays Battling Boomerang.
Hoax announces 7 earth.
Mimix plays Virgin of Pure Earth.
Mimix plays Hail of Arrows.
Mimix announces 7 earth.
Hoax retrieves Battling Boomerang.
Hoax plays Genathones the Blind.
Hoax plays Duplicator of Strength.
Hoax plays Potion of Prodigious Passion.
Hoax announces 10 earth.
Mimix retreats.
Hoax attracts 1 dragon. (Mimix 2, Hoax 0)

Predictable, but despite the dragon loss I felt okay about this fight as I got Hoax to 5 cards and forced him to spend Duplicator and the Potion.

Fight 4:

Mimix plays Shaman of the Here and Now.
Mimix takes Spirit of the Night into hand.
Mimix announces 2 earth.
Hoax plays Helkomedes the Rhetorician.
Hoax announces 3 earth.
Mimix plays Amazon Leaping Far.
Mimix announces 4 earth.

(I'm just throwing crap out here now because it's all I have. No supports, no boosters, no matched characters. Again, I'm just trying to bleed Hoax until the last second, when I can retreat again.)

Hoax plays Redamikanas the Cartographer.
Hoax plays Homing Missiles.
Hoax announces 4 earth.
Mimix plays Dancer of Dusk.
Mimix announces 4 earth.
Hoax plays Ciklarethas the Bitter.
Hoax announces 5 earth.
Mimix retreats.
Hoax attracts 1 dragon. (Mimix 1, Hoax 0)

Good time to pull out, with Hoax at 4 cards and with two retrievable cards going away. My lead's down to 1.

Fight 5:

Mimix plays Shaman of the Deeds to Come.
Mimix announces 2 earth.

(I thought really hard before starting this fight, trying to decide whether to decline and discard the two remaining shamen or lead one of the shamen despite its lack of effect. Getting any of the shamen except Afterlife late in the game for Mimix sucks badly because not only are they wimpy characters but often their effects are useless then. I decided fighting in earth would be more valuable to me than forcing Hoax to lead. Note despite throwing the last two fights I'm still expecting to lose this one - Brain Drain and Tome of Wisdom are still out)

Hoax plays Muster Reinforcements.
Hoax plays Sarogakanas the Ancient.
Mimix moves Heroine of the High Flames to discard pile.
Mimix moves Spirit of the Night to discard pile.
Hoax plays Battling Boomerang.
Hoax announces 3 earth.

(I was ticked off at myself for allowing this. I should have led higher to avoid Sarogakanas, but ironically losing those cards plays into my favor later.)

Mimix plays Spirit of the Light.
Mimix announces 5 earth.
Hoax plays Trigger Brainstorm.
Hoax plays Bethenitana the Storyteller.
Hoax plays Brain Drain.
Hoax plays Inscrutable Armor.
Hoax plays Tome of Wisdom.
Hoax announces 5 earth.

(Ow. Examining the remaining hands, opening this fight in earth is what led to this point. Vetraskedas wasn't enough to match 5 earth, so the only character Hoax could play was Bethenitana + Tome. Whether it needed to blow Brain AND Inscrutable Armor is debatable, but I guess it really wanted to get to six cards just to ruin my day. I thought this was game over.)

Mimix plays Neth-sur-Pot.
Mimix announces 5 fire.

(Hoax is already at 6 cards anyway, so why not? I didn't count cards, but there was a chance he might not have had a character to match. Plus, I know that mutant isn't going to be playable again and getting rid of it cleans up my hand a bit for what'll likely be the last fight.)

Hoax plays Enthrall Opposition.
Hoax plays Vetraskedas the Sceptic.
Hoax announces 6 fire.
Mimix retreats.
Hoax attracts 2 dragons. (Hoax 1, Mimix 0)

Sucks to be me. I'm still thinking game over... but then I remember I still have Shaman of the Afterlife.

Fight 6:

Mimix plays Shaman of the Afterlife.
Mimix announces 2 earth.

(I needed either a strong character or a good support or booster and drew Whirling Hatchet and some other card I don't remember now. Suddenly I realized I'd won - Hoax only has two remaining cards and I know one of them is the mutant.)

Hoax plays Penemikanas the Paranoid.
Hoax announces 3 earth.
Mimix plays Young Bear.
Mimix plays Whirling Hatchet.
Mimix announces 4 earth.
Hoax retreats.
Mimix attracts 1 dragon.
Hoax declines to start fight.
Hoax moves Var-dis-Nar to discard pile.
Game over
Mimix wins 1 crystal.

Phew.

May I ask what's the Dearlove/Jowjow challenge?

It was a challenge Chris Dearlove originally discussed regarding Keldon's Blue Moon AI, specifically winning a single game using every matchup possible with all decks. I tried to raise the bar, saying instead I was going to try to win a 5-crystal match with every matchup.

I didn't realize how much work it was going to be, not to mention how difficult it was going to be to win matches with certain matchups. I'm taking a break from it for now but there's a post somewhere here tracking how far I've gotten if you're curious.

My logic was that originally I thought of just playing each. But playing is easy (just retreat every opportunity is easiest). Winning made you actually do some work.

I also got so far, then stalled, then Keldon updated his AI and I started again, then ...
