Just noticed on the www.uberplay.com site that they are officially out of business.

It's too bad! I thought that they had good games with (mostly) very good production quality. This is no surprise, between the fire sale they've been holding on Tanga and the lack of upcoming releases, but it's still sad to see that it has definitely happened.

Yeah, I guess that's not really a surprise. I certainly got the sense that they were a sinking ship.

I count myself fortunate in one regard -- I had gotten 3 copies of Hollywood Blockbuster from Tanga around Christmastime, only to discover a month later that only one copy actually contained the screenplays. It took a couple of months and a few e-mails back and forth, but they did eventually dig two sets of screenplays out of the warehouse somewhere and sent them to me. Seems like that was just about the last thing they did before shutting down.

Seemed inevitable. I wouldn't be surprised if SimplyFun were to fall next. (Or at least exit the filler Euro game market and concentrate on the toys, stuffed animals and the stuff they've been trying pitch.)

Nah, Saga's a fine game. Besides, there's so many more obvious culprits: Spy, Oh Pharoah, and let us not forget--Manga Manga!

Still, I'm really sorry to hear of their passing. I thought they had the money and the savvy to make it work, but they never seemed to figure out what it was they wanted to do. Too bad, Jeremy's a good guy and he really had a passion for the company. But yeah, I can't say that it's a shock.

This is very unfortunate. cry Several Uberplay games make regular and popular appearances on my game table, they have been one of my favorite publishers for a while. I remember getting my first Uberplay game (Metro) after getting a nice demo from them at Gencon a few years ago.

There are still a few of their titles I'd like to have, I guess I'd better act fast. I also wonder how this will affect Tanga? Might there be an Uberplay fire sale of epic proportions on it's way?

I think we've already seen the fire sale.

Perhaps you are right.

I was thinking maybe something along the lines of them just going Uberplay titles one after the other for a few days. You're probably correct in that they might have taken a bit more of a measured approach. Knowing the inevitable they might have already cleared out most of their stock via Tanga over the last few months, and perhaps will continue the same thing until it is all gone.

Definitely not a surprise when they stopped releasing new titles, and seemed to be liquidating all inventory via their companion www.tanga.com site...

Does make me wonder which titles we'll see reprints of from other publishers... Rio Grande Games months ago already announced they were reprinting "Ra".

I would appreciate if sumbuddy put together a list showing the publication status of all Überplay titles. Which ones are currently in print? Which ones are currently in print in English? Are there any rumors about a publisher picking some up? I've been looking for For Sale for a couple months, and each FLGS has told me it's still in print but they are out and can't get it.

Man,this sucks. I really enjoy alot of games from Uberplay. Ra and China have been getting alot of play in my gaming circle. Maybe I need to get my hands on a copy of Hansa and Hoity Toity before it's too late.

It was God's retribution for that garbage remake of Traumfabrik, Dream Factory. All kidding aside it is too bad, as they did have some respectable titles under their belt.

What was wrong with Hollywood Blockbuster?!? The names and the whole set up was funny, and at least they went a long with the whole Hollywood spoof.

Anyway, it sucks even though everyone who has followed Uberplay or Tanga saw it coming. Too bad too, been trying to get a copy of For Sale / China / Alhambra for super cheap on Tanga for a while.

What was wrong with Hollywood Blockbuster?!?

I saw nothing wrong with it either... I've played the original German version a couple of times and it was great to be able to play this game with my own copy of this great game w/out having to pay an arm and leg for the original.

ps: the one they made the mistake on was Tightrope... the new theme didn't bother me but I can see it turning some folks off. Still, it was also nice to be able to have a copy of that other Knizia classic at a decent price (I bought it from an online retailer when it 1st came out long before Tanga even existed)

Not much beyond a blindingly loud color scheme, cheap components, and pedestrian humor. That is unless you mean "Dental Washington" & "Susan Saranwrap" is funny. No there is absolutely nothing wrong with Hollywood Blockbuster.

cheap components? They are just as good or better than the original's!

Sure there was no music CD with the UB's reprint, but who listens to CD's anymore?

The last few Uberplay titles they have offered have said

"Just a Few Left...Once They Are Gone, They Are Gone!" and that was used on a few of their games the last time they were posted. like Tongiaki ...
http://www.tanga.com/products/1868-Tongiaki_the_Board_Game

or "When They're Gone, They're Gone!" on Aquadukt... http://www.tanga.com/products/1994-Aquadukt_the_Board_Game

I do believe it is all gone from their warehouse now.
