I live in Norway and I'm going to Liverpool next week for three days. I don't have much free time to shop around so if any Liverpudlians out there can point me in the direction of the best game shop(s) I would be very grateful.

As far as I know the only games shop in Liverpool is GameCraft 56-60 Parr Street, L1 4JN. However it is quite small and the selection thus rather limited.

The answer to your question might therefore be "Manchester", if you have a chance to get there (about an hour away on the train), where there are a couple of decent shops. See the UK FAQ pagehttp://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/UK_faq for addresses.

You might also like to check out Second Chance Games http://www.secondchancegames.com which is just over the river on the Wirral.

Second Chance Games is not normally open to the public but if you ring Andy you can make arrangements to visit to collect games advertised on the web site.

If you are in Liverpool on a Monday you may wish to visit the Liverpool Lion Boardgame group. They game from 6pm to 11pm at the Lion Tavern, Tithebarn Street just across the road from Moorfields train station.

Is Second Chance still in Liverpool proper? Is "just over the river" the Mersey?

Second Chance is across the River Mersey in Wallasey - Its a 10 minute ferry ride from Liverpool pier head and a a 10 minute walk from Seacombe Ferry terminal. Below is the direct service timetable - during the middle of the day the ferry operates as a circular river tour for tourists.

Thanks a lot John and Eddy! I will be in Liverpool on Monday and would love to visit the boardgame group there, but I have the old "trouble and strife" with me and she isn't much into gaming.

I'm coming over to see my son play at the Cavern Club. The band is called Ziroki. Have you heard of them?

I've heard of the Cavern Club but not Ziroki I'm afraid!

Have a great time - and good luck to your son with his gig.

There is a forbidden planet about 10 minutes walk from the main train station.

Just across the road from Lime Street is Worlds Apart .. a quite excellent comic shop. I think I've seen a copy of Catan and the usual CCG's there but nothing else. Then theres Forbidden Planet in Bold Street. Other than that its pretty poor for such a large city. I left there 10 years ago but go back to see family. I'm now near Sheffield and for a city thats half the size of Liverpool theres 4 specialist game shops that I know of.
