The latest games night was a Transport theme event held on 22/01/2010. I played the following games on the night.

1) The 39 clues - A trivia game where players need to travel to at least 4 continents and pick up different coloured keys to win game. It helps to have some knowledge of geography but not essential. Game clues can range from specific facts about city/country, anagrams, picture puzzles and fill in the blanks. More suited for adults.

2) Cowabunga - Surfing cows?? Yes, that's right, surfing cows. In this game players make the waves go up and down depending on the numbered cards played and the current height of the wave. You need to watch out for the obstacles though. Hit 4 obstacles and you lose.

3) Sputnik - Plays a bit like a junior version of Xertz. Players move their spaceship to adjacent spaces on the board and then remove a board piece (Galaxy). With the board getting increasing smaller as the game goes on it is increasingly important where you place your ship.

4) Ticket to Ride - Great game. The board looks great to start with. Players place train cars on the board depending on what cards they pick up. The aim is to accumulate the most points by laying claim to various routes, completing destinations (Destination ticket cards) and having the longest continuous route. Easy to learn and also can be quite strategic for the experienced gamer.

5) Mille Bornes - A card game based on car racing. The aim is travel exactly 1000 miles before anyone else. Players try to advance their own cars with various distance cards, positive cards (E.G. Removing speed limit) as well as safety cards (E.G. Stop an accident). The other players however are trying to do the same thing and stop you at the same time. This is where the negative cards (Run out of gas, accident, flat tyre, etc.) may help them.

If you are like me you may play a game where you go nowhere because of nasty competitors (Thanks Mum and Dad).

6) Super Farmer - Excellent game and quick to play. Players are trying to get 1 of each animal on the board to win (Rabbit, Sheep, Pig, Cow and Horse). To do this you need to trade in lower value animals to get the more valuable ones (Cow and Horse). Players roll 2 coloured dice with the animal pictures on them to determine what animal they collect. Watch out for the fox and Wolf though as they will eat your animals.

Next games night is in 3 weeks time. Hope to see you there.

Note:- An idea for the next games night could be card games.

Interesting Fact:- Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.
