Inauguration Day is upon us. The United States of America will have a new President. Some people are happy, others are concerned and the rest couldn't care less. So it seems appropriate to have a math trade to either celebrate, forget your concerns or just give you something else to focus on entirely - because you know it'll be all over the TV, radio and the print media...

Trade GeekList: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/38596
Request GeekList: http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/38658

Use of the On-Line Want List Generator (OLWLG) is required for this event (please remember to tip JeffyJeff some GG for his support).

OK - some simple rules - please take a few minutes to read them:

1) NO POLITICS. This math trade is a "politics-free zone". There will be NO discussion of politics here. No comments, no jokes - nothing. Anyone violating this rule - per my judgement - will be subject to a 10GG fine, which (if there have been any fines levied) will be first paid to me and then given out by me in a random drawing to one participant who has not been fined. This fine covers the trade and request Geeklists as well as the discussion thread.

If you can't or won't pay a fine that you have earned, I will find some other minor way in which to penalize you...

2) Gift certificates, Geekgold, DVDs etc are all permitted.

3) Gift certificate and GG arbitrage are NOT allowed.

4) Non-game entries must be added as "Outside the Scope of BGG" (game id 23953) or "Miscellaneous Game Accessory" (game id 5985) and must include the +altname+ brief description -altname- format in the description of your item.

If you are offering an expansion for which there is no entry in BGG (for instance expansion cards handed out at Essen) and NOT the base game, please use "Miscellaneous Game Accessory" to help avoid confusion.

5) You are expected to describe, as accurately as is reasonably possible, the condition (components and box), language and edition of your item in the description. This includes sweeteners if they are physical items (i.e. not GG).

For games not brand new (in shrink) you must inventory the game's components and list anything missing. Do not assume it's complete. Also, remember that just because something is "new in shrink" that doesn't mean that you shouldn't disclose any dings. It might not matter to you, but it matters to some people.

If the game and/or expansion you are listing is a "Print & Play" make that clear in the description (and I recommend you give specifics what it was printed on, mounted on, etc).

If you are listing an expansion if you reference the base game in the description be clear one way or the other if you are including the base game or not. Do not include a link to the base game unless you are including it as this looks, in the OLWLG, as if you are.

6) Your shipping restrictions must be clearly stated and if you are not covering full shipping, you must state precisely how much of the shipping you will cover. You are not permitted to require a specific amount for shipping from the recipient and must cover at least the first $5 of shipping costs for items you send out. "Mirror shipping" is not allowed. People will offer to pay what they think they can afford, within the rules - if you don't like someone else's shipping policies, then don't put their items on your list. Any ambiguity will be interpreted as generosity on your part. This means that if you don't include a shipping policy, then it is assumed that you will ship anywhere in the world for free!

If you are not covering full shipping within your own country, please state clearly where you are shipping from as this will help anyone who is trying to figure out their shipping cost for your item.

7) Sweeteners are to be listed using either the GAMEID formatting (prefered, example Hansa) or a link to the game's page (this will look like http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/8989). If you don't use this format your sweeteners won't show up in the OLWLG properly.

8) If you've been reported as a bad trader, you cannot participate. If you try to, I will remove your entries.

9) Please do NOT include links to other games in your entry unless you are actually including them as a sweetener, as this is displayed in a misleading manner by the OLWLG.

10) Finally - you are expected to periodically check during the item submission period, and preferably during the want list submission period, to see if anyone has commented on your entries. People often ask questions of items - most commonly because you have forgotten to state a version, language or shipping policy - and you should check in to address such questions in a timely manner should they arise, so that everyone then has the correct information available.

This is a very easy thing to do. Just click on "My Geek", then "Contributions" and finally on "GeekList Items". You will then be able to see your items without having to find them in the trade GeekList along with any comments that people have made. You will only need to go back to the trade GeekList to make adjustments or answer questions if there were any.

List Cap: None

Maximum Submissions Per User: Unlimited

Geekgold restrictions:

Users may not post more geekgold than they currently have. Geekgold arbitrage is not allowed.

Key dates (all times CENTRAL TIME)

Open for posting games: Monday, January 19th (10am) until Sunday, January 25th (Noon)

Want list submission period: Sunday, January 25th (Noon) until Tuesday, January 27th (Noon) - no extensions!

Results posted about an hour thereafter.

Please note that it's best to work on your want list and submit them early - you can always make changes and resubmit later. This will prevent you from being left out if you forget the deadline.

Also: Creating want lists is not the same as submitting them. To submit them you will need to click on the "Submit My Wants" button. If you're not sure how to find this, consult the documentation referenced above or ask in the discussion thread.

When you submit your want lists, you will receive a confirming GeekMail. If you don't get one, your want lists haven't been submitted. Your want lists in the GeekMail may be truncated - this is fine.

Want list submission

Submissions may be made at any time after the 25th at noon, but only by the OLWLG. If you will be unavailable during the want list submission period but still wish to participate, contact me directly and we can discuss alternatives.

Note: only errors by the moderator will invalidate the results.

Also in the case that there is a problem after the results are posted, at most it will only invalidate the affected trade chain(s) and not the entire results set. In addition if the problem can be resolved by the most directly affected party or parties, then that is perfectly acceptable.

Updates:

Watch this space for regular updates...

Current "politics fine" kitty = 10 GG (See rule #1 above)

You may not participate in this event if you created your profile after the time of this posting (12:20pm CT 1/15/09).

I that see we have a huge amount of GCs being added...

I just want to reiterate - there is NO gift certificate arbitrage allowed. If anyone attempts it, and I catch it, I will REMOVE the want list for that entry entirely before I run the results guaranteeing that it will not trade.

Should I fail to see it before the results are run one of two things will happen:

i) If no harm was done I will allow the results to stand.

ii) If arbitrage was successful, I will invalidate the results, delete the want list for the offending entry and rerun the results.

We did not receive want lists from the following:

# MISSING 64 WANTS (2.4%) FROM 9 USER(s) (2.8%):
# autumnweave (1)
# bane221 (15)
# bigtex01 (7)
# caldwellmark (2)
# Cleitus the Black (1)
# cornjob (22)
# richtoosoon (3)
# rjwoodson (10)
# Rock Photo Star (3)

I think the rest forgot - except for two people who contacted me.

Re: The Inauguration Day Math Trade - Discussion Thread
Please Remember:

When you submit your want lists, you will immediately receive a GeekMail from JeffyJeff confirming your submission (actually it's an automated response). It will likely truncate your lists in the GM but this is normal and not a problem with your lists.

If you do not immediately receive the GM, then you haven't submitted them.

I hope I can ask this question without being fined?

Does the No Politics rule include UK politics? My reason for asking is that I wanted to say to all Americans how proud we Brits are that your President has recently presented our ex-leader (Tony someone) with the Honorary Presidential Citation for the Ugliest G8 Wife Award for the years 1992 to 2009 inclusive.

If your ban does cover worldwide politics, will everyone please ignore this!

Thanks Tiger.

I posted this on the other thread, but I'm porting it here to get more looks... I decided to bundle games to make more attractive lots rather than list all 10 games separately. I’m looking to create lots that will entice people to add them to their Want List, not necessarily make the most logical arrangements, e.g., all card games together.

My current allotments. Thoughts?

LOT 1
Charioteer
Intrige
Lunch Money

LOT 2
Perikles
Pecking Order

LOT 3
Ys
Ys+

LOT 4
Friedrich

LOT 5

Both multiply-offered Tanga items. This may or may not make it a reasonable pairing.

Hey Kurt, for what it's worth offering games from Tanga together like that will increase your odds of getting a trade you'll like rather than just listing one of them. You won't have many bites for just Pecking Order, and maybe lots of people got Perikles for cheap, but the combination might be enough for someone who had neither to put it on their lists.

I wouldn't trade much for the combo, but I'd be more likely to put it on one of my lesser items than if it was either solo.

I'd love to get a lot of unrelated games if someone wants to go to my want in trade list and put some together. Especially a group of lower priced games would be nice to save on shipping for example Bang, Loco!, and Saboteur.

Well thanks, but now I'm thinking if they're both Tanga-cheap that I should split them up and put them with other games. Maybe:

no offense, but that "new user" badge would probably prevent me from putting your items on my want lists.

Suggestion.... try to make a couple of direct trades... which folks will also be hesitant to do but you could trade with an established trader with the agreement that you ship first and after the other person receives your item that they then ship. You may have to wait longer... and you have to trust the established trader, but you can get some trade feedback that way.

It may be possible to do the same thing in a math trade though a little more difficult because the person you send to is usually different than the person you receive from for each item you may trade. Maybe you could state in your listing(s) that you will ship first and anyone sending to you will wait until the person you send to receives.

then again some folks are willing to take more risk so you may not have any trouble.

I suppose that would be fine... Lol, I'm not looking to flake out afterwards. I have been trying to do some direct trades, but I've only got one person to respond back and it was negative. But I dont mind waiting to get min until the other party has received theirs I suppose.

If you want to participate, do it. Some people may be leery of your newness, but that is outside of your control. Believe it or not, some other people will want to trade with you BECAUSE you are new. The chances that a new trader will undervalue a trade item and give someone a bargain is a real possibility.

Your job as a math trader, is to learn how the tools work, and figure out how to create want lists which are fair to you. Find an experienced trader who will preview your want lists. Do not make the mistake of trading your copy of 1960 for For Sale. (True story)

If you are confused, ask here or send me GeekMail. Good Luck.
