I'm downtown Tacoma, WA for the next two weeks as I am on Jury Duty. Yes, it's true, this is nothing like Law&Order... I'm so bored with all the waiting!

Which brings me to the point of this post. I have an hour and a half for lunch and am wondering where the closest FLGS is to the court house. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Serving-Citizen-On-Duty,
Lucas

The Game Matrix is in Tacoma and has a really good selection. It also has a big playing area.

There's an Uncle Games in Redmond that had a great staff and awesome collection. They also held games in the store several days a week.

Uncle's Games Puzzles & More - www.unclesgames.com
16507 NE 74th St, Redmond - (425) 497-9180

apparently they have a Bellevue site as well.

The closest game store to you is just south of the Tacoma Mall right off of I-5. It's something like Golden West Games. The only have about two shelves of board games though and their prices are full retail.

I doubt you really want to fight the traffic for a lunch visit, but I bet you'd enjoy a visit to Olympic Cards and Comics down here in Olytown.

I know, I know. You're probably thinking, "Cards? Comics? Yes, yes I see. But what about games?"

Games aplenty, my friend. Games aplenty.

A second nomination for Games Matrix on South Tacoma Way. Great store with a nice selection and knowledgeable staff.

Avoid Golden West Games -- their primary focus is poker, billiards/pool, and darts. As far as I've been able to tell, their inventory of boardgames hasn't changed in five years, and the staff will have no clue if you ask them any boardgame related questions (assuming they're not just plain rude and refuse to answer, as they did with me once).

There's also a Games Workshop outlet across the freeway from the Tacoma Mall, if you're into that sort of thing (no boardgames, just GW minis).

Anything else is too far for a lunchtime commute.

Thanks for the quick response everyone. Unfortunately these are all places that are too far away. I regularly check in at Olympia C&C as I work in Oly, and Game Matrix has been known to take money right out of my acount! These are the two I normally shop at in the South Sound area, but was just wondering if there was anything downtown that I've missed.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. Sounds like we need to open a store in this area. Whatdya think?

How about the "American Eagles" Hobby Shop there, and are they still around? Look them up in the phone book for their location, as it isn't that distant from where you are at during this. They're just South of that Mall there and around the very next EXIT off of the freeway. You can even park right in front of this for FREE, unless that's changed since the last time I was there.

Nope, American Eagles in Tacoma closed up for good last year. You can still see their red awning, but the shop is now used for selling what I assume are imported rugs, judging by what's in the windows.

Game Matrix rules, who needs anything else? Though I just discovered a place in Spanaway called The House of Flying Monkeys that I must visit one day!

This is an old thread, but since I found it by looking at the FLGS list thingy, I thought I'd update it.

Tacoma games - http://liketacomagames.com/ - has opened up on 6th street. It's not a huge store, but it has a really nice selection of games. Prices are about retail to maybe $5 off or so. Has an open gaming night on Thursdays that runs from 5 to 8 or so. I'm a fan.

Olympic Cards and Comics really is the best games store in the western Washington area, by quite a bit, and it's only getting better. Games out the wazoo, along with tons of other stuff. Plus they have a full second floor for gaming space.
