There's only one shop in Cardiff that sells gamer's games: Cardiff Games.
They're in Duke Street Arcade - entrance is right in front of the castle.

OK, many thanks both: I will try to arrange a visit when I will come again. I found the webside as well, so I am going to lose myself in the site...

Yeah, Cardiff Games is really the only option in Cardiff now. Until about a year ago there was a pretty decent shop on Cowbridge Road but unfortunately that seems to have gone belly up now.

- Man!, this thread makes me wish for a Doctor Who game with a Torchwood expansion.

- Cardiff Games: crappy selection existing mostly of CCGs (and other collectibles) that no-one cares about, and the staff is very grumpy and is trying to stare you out the store. I order my games from Infinity Games or Amazon and hardly ever jump into the store. If you're saying that you're just browsing they seem to think you're crazy.

- The guys at the shop are not that bad. I've had quite a few good conversations with the guys in there, even a played a game with fen and if you have been in recently they have decided to get in some more popular games.

But yes - not much of a selection usually but I think it's been a bit better of late.

I was in that game shop in Castle Arcade about two weeks ago. I lived in Cardiff from 90-97, and holidayed in Wales recently. Whilst I was delighted to see that the shop was still there, the attitude of the staff left more than a little to be desired. I seem to recall that I was grunted at a couple of times, and that was the extent of the interaction, even when I was buying a game!
Whilst the selection of games was OK, the problem I had was that the shop stocked a lot of expansions, but not many base games. Would I have spent more if there was a more balanced selection? Yes, undoubtedly. As it turned out, I ended up picking up Battlestar Galactica and nothing else.
Guys, it's great that the shop is still there. I remember it from my student days and was thrilled to walk in there again, but really, would it kill you to be a little less elitist?

Went to Cardiff Games a few days ago. I was a little trepiditious after reading posts here as to the reception I'd get. But I can only commend the place, very friendly staff, a huge range of games in such a little shop. They were sold out of Talisman, so bought on eBay, but had Descent and Zombies, Pandemic, Beowulf, Galactica and lots more. Prices were decent too.
Biggest surprise was buying some modelling paints there. I always get MP paints, £1 a pot and excellent colours. They are apparently no more, so if you buy them too, and see them, get them because after that there's no more.

Yes, I officially have to readjust my previous opinion. Apparently the shop now has another salesperson who is not only very knowledgeable but also very friendly. A huge improvement and nowadays I feel happy just walking in, having a browse and a chat.
Selection is still a bit small but that's because their biggest business is CCGs but the new guy seems to be pushing for stocking more high quality boardgames.

There is a semi-new shop that starting selling board games, has a few players as well and can order pretty much anything. Now getting into Magic as well. Mainly he deals in Wargaming stuff at the moment.
More importantly in the back are 45 tables to play on, for about £3.50 a head.
Firestorms Games, there on Trade St (Enterprise Rent A Car) off Penarth Road (round the back of the station for easy access).
Pop on in and chat with the owner, nice bloke just ordered Twilight Imperium for me so if anyone wants a game.

Hi,
I am sorry to report that Cardiff Games was shut at the weekend and the store appeared to be completely empty.

Yes - unfortunately Cardiff Games ceased trading a few months ago
A new games shop called Rules of Play is soon to be opening up in one of the other arcades - there's a post about it somewhere on here.
Theres also Firestorm Games which specialises in minatures and wargames which is based on Penarth Road at the back of the Central Station.

Hi, Rules of Play in Castle Arcade should be open by the end of next week, come along and say hi...
we'll also be at the Games Day on Saturday, look forward to meeting some of you there...

- Rules of Play is definitely now open, and were a very friendly bunch. It's a small shop, and the stock isn't huge. I'm afraid I lean very heavily towards wargames (of which there were none, except maybe Twilight Struggle, depending on your definitions...) so I can't say how good the games in stock were, but I picked up a copy of Last Night on Earth because I like zombies. Certainly worth a look if you're in Cardiff.

Newport, WalesIf you notice this notice you wil notice that this notice was not worth noticing - I'm really impressed with the new shop. It's very bright and clean and the chaps who work there seem very friendly. The stock's not huge but what they've got there all seems to be good stuff.

I was in the new shop on Saturday. It looks very nice, and I didn't even explore the downstairs gaming area.
The stock levels are currently a bit low because of the opening event on Friday. Should be up to strength soon.
