I will break him.

Greetings,

This thread is only for those interested in participating in a War of the Ring online tournament that will be utilizing a Java program. Please post here only if you wish to participate. If you have any questions please go to:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/3819178#3819178

The tournament should start in about two weeks and will run for a couple of months, as we will provide two weeks to finish each game. There will be no bidding for sides, instead each round you will either be assigned Shadow or Free, with the object to have everyone play each side an equal number of times if possible. The default format for the tournament will be the expansion game utilizing the Java program, however you and your opponent are free to choose otherwise.

We have a three judge panel that will resolve rule questions as well as other disputes as may arise, such as failure to play or complete games. It should be noted that failure to complete a match is an automatic loss for both players unless evidence is presented indicating the fault lies entirely with one of the players.

The volunteer judges are:
Kevin W. (2009 WBC Champ)
Sean McCarthy (Java program creator)
Michael Sosa (2008 Prezcon champ :-)

We encourage players of all skill levels to participate, as I will attempt to match people by skill for the first and probably second rounds of the tourney. I have defined the three skill level options as:

Novice: casual / new player, has not won any tournament games

Intermediate: May have participated in tournaments, maybe won 1-2 games, understands most of the rules.

Expert: Has extensive experience with the game, usually beats other players, probably has tournament experience.

When posting your interest in participating please indicate the following:

1. Name (or BGG nickname if preferred):
2. Skill level: (Novice, Intermediate, Expert- see above for explanation)
3. Whether you have previously used the Java program and / or would like one of us to teach you the basics of the Java program.
4. Whether you would be interested in paying a small fee, not to exceed $5, for the purposes of prize support for the overall winner as well as best Novice and Intermediate players. If enough people agree I would make this mandatory for participation.

Note if you have previously expressed your interest in participating in this tournament somewhere else, please do so again here.

I expect first pairings on Monday, August 31, 2009.

Thank you and good luck!

PS Remember to post any questions to the following discussion thread:

4. Fee: I suppose but it seems like really a pain to get that few dollars to someone. Having some kind of official award thing that you could print out seems like that should be sufficient.
