There's several options:

Playin' Games is on Museum Street by the British Museum (fairly central). Orcs Nest isn't that far from there.

Leisure Games in Finchley is much further out, but probably has the best selection.

Cheers,

Jack

These three are the best. If you have time, start with Leisure Games: they are a bit far from downtown, but have the largest collection by far. Normally, your shopping bag should be pretty full after visiting them

There's also Forbidden Planet in Shaftesbury Ave, WC1 and Orcs Nest, which is just round the corner, both of which are a 5-10 minute walk from Playin' Games in Museum Street. FP has some board games (mainly euros) and a selection of RPGs, both selections are found downstairs. Orcs Nest has pretty much everything although neither can touch Leisure Games for selection of games and great service. Enjoy your trip by the way.

All good answers. Back when I used to maintain the uk.games.board FAQ list, that became a Wiki here, I would also mention Compendium in Greenwich. I wouldn't go to Greenwich for it, but I would look in if on Greenwich - which is well worth a visit.

In fact that would be my first reaction. London's games shops are fine, but if I had limited time I'd spend it on other things. Games shops cut in when I'm visiting somewhere new for a week or more.

http://www.boardgameguru.co.uk/ is also a real shop at Brixton. Edit: (OR NOT? SEE POSTS BELOW)

It is the shop of ...

... so you may ask him about the games he has there. I haven`t been there yet.

Leisure Games
http://www.leisuregames.com/acatalog/ContactUs.html is not too far outside (close to a train station) and gamer`s paradise. I was a bit disappointed of Playin` Games at the British Museum last year. Too much "mainstream" stuff and the basement too small and stuffed with games by rather big companies.

Daniel, are you sure that boardgameguru is an actual physical shop? Paul Lister says in his profile that he owns an online retailer. I haven't found any invitation to "come and visit our shop" on the website either.

Oh my goodness! I wanted to have alook there next week. Fortunately after the "London on Board" meetup the night before - so I`d met Paul "physical" before and had asked!

Imagine myself in front of a Brixton house, ringing the bell to meet Paul in front of his PC and a basement full of shrinkwrapped games "only for online sale"! soblue

Thanks for the clarification! I was probably was dead wrong!

I'm not a physical shop however, i do get the occasional visitor which is great as it breaks up the day, gives me an excuse to make a cup of tea, quite often play a game and sometimes even sell a game or two.
