Going to be in Natick. Wife, child and mother are doing a "girls day" at the American Girl store in Natick, MA. I will have 4-5 hours with a car and nothing to do. Any FLGS recommendations nearby?

I like game stores with a used section, and also FLGSs that carry GMT an war games.

Any help appreciated.
Tim

Here is the down and dirty:

The Compleat Strategist (Boston) -- pretty decent collection but a bit odd location and layout.

Eureka Puzzles and Games (Brookline) -- okay for most popular games. If looking for odd games, not the place. They do have great puzzles, especially wooden ones.

The Games People Play (Cambridge) -- Selection can be hit or miss. Great wargame collection. Euros are usually the most trendy ones.

Pandemonium (Cambridge) -- really hit or miss in terms of games. They are down in the basement with the Warhammer tables and probably not their biggest business. Can find real gems from time to time.

Hobby Bunker (Malden) -- great tabletop wargaming stuff. This store is fantastic. They do have a decent selection of board games, but not the best.

Myriad Games (Salem, NH) -- great selection. Great service. You can find some really great games here. Only problem, it's probably at least 45-1 hour from Natick. It is really easy to find and right off the highway.

If I were you and had the time, I would hoof it to Myriad Games. They have a great selection and some real gems. Plus if you don't find something at one of the immediate Boston area stores, you will spend the same amount of time fighting traffic and looking for parking. If you are not familiar with the area, Boston can be a pain in the butt to find yourself driving around. If you have extra time, you can head down from Myriad Games and stop at Hobby Bunker -- well worth the trip for some interesting games pieces and odds and ends. You can easily jump on Rt. 93 from there and then then catch the Mass Turnpike and be back in Natick in no time. That's my 2 cents worth. If you have any other questions, just geek mail me.

If it GMT games you are looking for, The Compleat Strategist and The Games People Play have the best collections in the immediate Boston area. If it is used games, none are great at the moment. In fact, it is pretty non-existent.

There is one store in nearby RI called The Gamekeeper. It's about 40 minutes, maybe a little less from where you're going to be.
http://www.gamekeeperri.com/index.htm
The website isn't great but he carries a decent selection of games and has back room of used games. If there is something you are looking for he is sometimes willing to part with it.

Another FLGS close to Natick is Rivendell in Rehoboth, MA. http://rivendellbooksandgames.com/
He's got a great selection, but nothing used as far as i am aware. He offers a special on his website - buy two games get 15% off; which i've been able to take advantage of a few times while in the store.

Good luck!

The Compleat Strategist has moved ! It is no longer on Mass Ave but rather about a mile outbound from Kenmore on Comm Ave . It is hard to spot - a small cramped room at the end of a corridor next to a 24 hour ATM lobby.

I love this store and Rob (the owner) is super-friendly. It's usually the first place I go when looking for something new.

Another favorite store nearby is Scholar's in Bridgewater. They don't really have a website, but the store is usually chock full of stuff old and new. I liken walking through it like rummaging through your grandfather's attic; There's all this *stuff* that just demands attention...
