Is there a way to print the result? (with pictures/icons, I mean. Not using the "grid" view option.)

That would be great!

I make a screen-shot and print that.

Thank you for the tip, but it only works for short lists. A print feature would make a better job.

And I shouldn't be talking to Germans.

Hey Dave, awesome tool!

I don't know if you're still monitoring this thread, but I wanted to let you know the box cover images are not loading for me. Not sure if anyone else is having that problem. Everything else loaded just fine, except for the images.

Chris, without knowing anything about how what to play works, the problem is in BGG. The last update seems to have broken that. (At least that's true for other apps of this nature). Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Seeing how its a flash app, it's likely that it needed the full URL complete with protocol. Web apps using the BGG APIs could link to images with a protocol relative to the containing page.

Relevant to this discussion: BUG: URL scheme not included on images

The update to 1.52 is now available. Just start the app as normal and it will prompt you to update. This version reads the new image URLs and displays them properly.

Happy gaming!

I'd love to find something like this that worked on my phone. A web app, an iOS app, a text service, anything.

When I download 1.52, I get the Error Message:

I haven't read through all 19 pages, but I'm curious if anyone has thought about running this in some kind of cloud or online system. That way it would be accessible across platforms and not tied to anyone computer.

Admittedly I dont know how hard this would be to do, but I would be curious to try.

Although I got prompted to update Adobe Air, my 1.10 version of WhatToPlay didn't prompt me to update and I can't find a way to update to the new version through the app.

Is there a download link for the new version?

Never mind. I just found this thread:

I'm upset I didn't know about this until now. I'm very analytical, and I basically recreated this app for myself in a spreadsheet. It's a little demoralizing how much easier the app is, but it'll save me tons of time.

Thanks!

Just checking again: can you add a "Print" feature? It would be great to print the results, and a "print screen" solution simply doesn't cut it.

Agree, built in printing seems unnecessary when you can export

I disagree. The export function generates a CVS file, hardly comparable with the beautiful results you get on screen, all colorful and with thumbnails.

I think for a tool that you are getting for free that you may just have to take the extra step and do your own printing. I would much rather him work on stuff that I cannot do than to work on stuff that's already inherent in the app.

Agree, would love to see an iOS-app and would gladly pay for it.

The screenshot only works if you don't get many results in your query. Otherwise, you have to scroll down the page to see all the results.

You are right, I manually delete all results I don't want to play.

Hi all,

Dave has kindly given his permission for me to post this here, as I believe our potential users will overlap. I'm currently in the process of developing an app for Android, called "LudoMe", that is similar in functionality to Dave's WhatToPlay? application. I believe it's now ready for some beta testing, and so I'm looking for a few people who would be willing to give the app a test-run for me.

You can read more about it here:

https://boardgamegeek.com/article/22590654

Any and all help appreciated!

This is a great tool and exactly what I was looking for, except for one thing.

It would be great to have as one of the filter options a "best with" selection.

I know that you can click on a game in your collection and it will show you in a bar graph this information but often I find myself realizing that while a game might say "2-6 players" on the box, it's really not recommended with more than 4 for example.

This is made more difficult when some people insist on trying to play games with more people than they were intended for such as "Lost Cities" for example. It's not a 1 player game or a 3+ player game. It's a 2 player game, plain and simple. And yet the software currently shows it under a 2+ players filter which is annoying.

Otherwise it's fantastic though and has saved me a lot of effort as I was in the process of creating my own A5 ringbound "directory" with this very information for each of my games.
