Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
I'll throw some gentle nagging out there for the 14 Aug tourney thing. Are you coming, will you bring a copy, and how experienced are you?

We're going to need a decent idea of how many tables we'll need, how many rooms will need their centers cleared, and the amount of BBQ to smoke up.

Grant mentioned Friday night that a regular edition set board is playable on a standard sized folding card table if there's something alongside for the pieces. Comments, anyone?

If someone's going to risk bringing another CE set PM me since we'll need to make a bit more room.

Depending on banquet tables vs. card tables, a quick eyeball suggests we could probably have ten games running, maybe a couple more if needed. I don't think we'll get that many people but that's why I'm asking now.

Thanks!

Did you really mean 10 games, or just 10 people?

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
10 games. I don't think we'll get that many people but there's a number of rooms in the house that can get stuff shoved to the sides or moved as needed. Tables and chairs will probably be the biggest headache, although if regular card tables work those are pretty easy to borrow.

Grant, we'll have to chat more about it next time you're over. Maybe play with some tables--a real life Pack and Stack. The family thing we've got next weekend will also be a dry run for some of it.

Coolers and ice shouldn't be a problem. If you're doing the BBQ in advance, stove and oven space won't be a problem. We use Rudy's for the family things, they just want to know a day ahead how much is needed and when it gets picked up. That's not out of the question either.

And fewer people is fine too, so everyone get your prefs in and we'll see how big this might get.

TOPIC HIJACK--- Be warned!
Folks does any 1 play Simple Great Battles of History...?
Ugh - I'm really struggling with working the system out...must be losing to much grey matter from too much Tequila.
I have the game setup physically and I'm goofing with it on VASSAL but can find NO---ONE online to offer an experienced opinion.

Trying to cross the Rubicon

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
I'm not sure where we'd set up another CE set, the thing wants more room than Arkham.

So right now there's Dick, Laurie, Grant, Darin, Brian, and maybe one more from our (D,L,G) bunch of gamers.

With that many people we're still shy one set.

Our coffee table is around 37", should work with some side tables.

Our card tables are 33"-34". If they work (with sides) we're set for three games. Chairs shouldn't be a problem.

Brian, I'll GM you the contact details.

Would love to participate in this event, if there's room (kind of hard to tell from the thread!).

Somewhat experienced player...in Austin. And hey, anyone want a game, send me a GM! (new players welcome).

Sure Ray, there's room. I'll GM you the details. I'm going to be a bit busy today, not much time for BGG. Are you willing to bring a copy of the game?

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
Alrighty folks! We are less than a week out. Time to finalize details!

We're open to discussion on start times and number of games. I've blocked the entire day out. My preference is to start around 11ish but I'm ok with earlier or later depending on guest needs.

We also need to discuss number of games. I'd enjoy 3 (or more!) but I understand that a 12 hour commitment may be a bit much. So we'll also take input on this subject.

Practice ribs today: my photos didn't turn out well but the food was fantastic. I'll be in top form for next weekend!

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
11 sounds fine to me. I would point out that in my experience, if you start at 11 AM, once you add in all the greetings and board set-up, etc. etc. you are probably looking at actual game starts @ 12:00 - 12:30. Just something to consider, especially if you want to try and get 3 games in and finish before 3 AM!

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
I have no issues with 11 or 12 on Saturday. I've gotten the day cleared out for it. With such delicious food, I expect it'll be covering both lunch and dinner? Would you like the rest of us to bring along anything?

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
We should be able to cover both meals in plenty if you don't mind eating barbeque twice. My intent is to make about 8 pounds of brisket, a rack of ribs, a dozen or so sausages and a chicken. We'll bring bread along with it. I hadn't asked what Dick was putting together for the event but I assumed he'd throw in a side dish or two and possibly some fruit.

We fed 4 people last night with 1 rack of ribs, 5 sausages and some bread. So I think we'll be more than covered foodwise.

Re: Any interest in Austin for War of the Ring
Yes! Let me add my voice to the choir - what can we bring? Sides? What about copious amounts of caffienated beverages? Ice? Water?

If you guys are kind enough to provide food, please let us fill in around it!
