A general question:
Many state, that they will ship free to EU. Technically that does not involve Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Isn't the postage to these EFTA states usually the same as EU states? Or are there postal services who charge more for these countries?
I'm not really affected, since I can give the address of a german friend if necessary, but I'm interested. Specially since there are usually two or three participants from these countries.

Well, for Sweden it's actually cheaper to send to those countries, as we don't have to pay any VAT for parcels sent there...

OT: BTW, if anyone wonders why I changed my shipping policy, it's because a 2kg LETTER costs SEK 225 (or about €22), and I'll cover that for each of my items.

Then please write Europe instead. It'll take you longer to answer when someone comes along and asks for their specific non-EU country anyway :)

Well, you made me check:

Here in France, Norway is not considered part of Europe if you choose surface mail, but it is part of Europe if you choose Airmail. Go figure...

Anyway, I don't want to bother with extra rules for this or that country, so in case someone wonders, my shipping quotes apply for everyone with a shipping address in geographical Europe.

Of course, but England and Ireland are also overseas, yet they are listed as European countries for both surface and air mail.

The french postal service is good, but pricing and shipping policies are less than clear. If you ever want to ship something from france, don't trust their website but go to a post office and ask for a price list, you'll find lots of cheaper alternatives to what they advertise online (I have a pdf in case someone is interested).

Shipping from Germany, it does make a difference. For parcels under 2 kg, shipping to Iceland, Norway or Switzerland costs about 5 Euros more, from 2 to 5 kg, its 13 Euros more than within EU.
So, EU is not always an abbreviation for Europe.

I wouldn't have any trouble paying that extra 5 Euros. Last trade there was a guy who had "free to EU" and I asked about Norway and got the reply that I would have to pay for all the shipping. It's his choice to make of course, but I would have no problem what so ever with a "Norway is more expensive than the rest of EU, so you'll have to pay the difference".

Anybody know of any other EU-country that has this shipping policy? Would be nice to have a list of "non-EU-non-friendly" countries :) *takes a note of Germany so far*

Christopher, many thanks for organizing this, it must be quite a bit of work for you!

As this is the first math trade I'm participating in, can you elaborate a bit on what happens on May 11th when all want lists are submitted? How do I find out what I have to trade and what I will receive, and who I have to contact to arrange these trades? Will the trades be 1-on-1, or will it be, according to the principle of a math trade, that I have to send an item to one person and I'll receive an item from another person?

Best regards,
Jeroen
You can take a look at the last trade here:
http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/52835/march-2010-european-...

It's very easy to find out who trades what to who from the results.
You won't find out on the 11th, as there usually is a problem or two with people not sending their lists and Chris want's to make sure everything is correct, but soon after the list will be ready.
Usually you don't send a game to the same person you recieve from, but that can happen too.

Btw, you'll probably have a hard time using the OLWLG for the first time (I sure did). Just read up on all the guides and don't be afraid to ask if there's something you can't figure out.

You CAN set it up via the trade manager, but as you say it becomes pretty artificial with only one of the sides actually sending anything. It's mostly done to get a positve feedback score, but it also automaticaly sends your shipping information, so it's good for people who are lazy too ^_^ It is absolutely no requirement to use the trade manager though. Simply sending the guy who is supposed to send you an item your information via a geekmail is more than enough, and I think that's what the majority of people do.

Don't underestimate the usefulness of a positive feedback - particularly for a new trader. A number of traders will not want to trade directly with a newbie with no or minimal feedback, so Math Tades are often an easy wasy to pick up quick and easy feedback. Thus giving you an enhanced trading status going forward.

I find that most traders will use Trade Manager simply because it is simple to track every stage of the trade and give both parties time frames and room to discuss any possible concerns. Plus the important feedback at the end of the trade, of course.

The entry will usually be done by the trader who is actually sending a game (although not a definite) and it is entered as a game one way against nothing coming back the other way. Both sides confirm and can give feedback at the end if required. It also confirms mailing addresses, which may prevent errors or misunderstandings if both parties rely on emails only. It may also remain the only permanent record of the trade for the future.

I would strongly recommend using Trade Manager.

It's also only really little work to use it.
There are only two reasons not wanting to use the Trade Manager:
1: The person is to lazy to spend 5 minutes once in a lifetime to understand how the system works. snore
2: The person is afraid of negative ratings for any reason. ninja

How can you see that?
In your OLWLG, klick "home" (if you are not already there),
then you see some icons under this math trade in
"Your active math trades".
Click the second from the right and you are there.

First time OLWLG users should note that you have to click the big green "send your wants list" button to finalise the process.
And then click the button on the next screen too!

Easily missed, as a couple of users in the last UK trade found out....
