I will be taking a trip to Baltimore for the National Middle School Association conference in November and while I am there if I have any free time I would like to try a game store. Any that you fellow BGG users would recommend?

Are you going to have a car while you're in Baltimore? That could make a huge difference in getting to a game store.

This is probably the best list of game stores in Maryland.

http://www.gamesclubofmd.org/GameStores.asp

I KNOW these addresses are in Baltimore city/county, but I can't personally vouch for any of them.

Arkham Asylum
Canton Games
Legend Comics
Walt's Sports Cards

I seem to remember another store opening recently, but I don't remember the name.

Helpful, huh?

If the conference is downtown Baltimore, Canton games is a short drive or taxi ride. There's a number of good restaurants near Canton games.

You should check out the Game clubs of Maryland website because you may be able to stop in for gaming if you have time.

Euroquest is in Maryland, November, 4 - 7, 2010

Two I can vouch for:

Xanadu Games is just inside the beltway. Decent selection of games, friendly knowledgeable people, gaming every Tuesday. Also a great store for CCGs and fighting games if you're into those.

Family Game Store in Savage is about 20 minutes south of Baltimore on a good day. Excellent selection including a lot of Haba games, in a really cool building (Savage Mill), big library of games, and gaming every Saturday (seems a little chaotic and tough to get in on games if you're not an extrovert.)

as far as I know, renaissance went out of business; at least they are not there anymore, and the website shut down. To be fair, before the end, their selection of product went downhill; they hadn't gotten anything exciting in a while. They seemed to stock everything, which is good, but they also stocked too much of what didn't sell. Arkham Asylum is closed as well.

Of the ones you mentioned, I would recommend canton games; they have the best selection, and they also have all board games 10% off all the time. The store is quite small, however, so there is little space to actually sit down and play, if that matters to you.

Walt's Cards in Dundalk also has a good selection, especially of war games, with a gaming space, but the seller does a lot of business at conventions, and every few weeks packs up a lot of product to take to shows. Since I have been there, however, he has started to keep more stock in the store even when he goes to the show, so the problem is mitigated somewhat.

Legends in Towson should be moving soon; they may be done by November. The only thing about them, is that they are primarily a comic shop, with some gaming. the gaming has been expanding recently, and has reached what I believe to be a respectable level in the last few months.

I went looking for Walt's Sports Cards last week, and the address listed has been taken over by a credit union. Any idea where Walt's went?

Walts is on German Hill Road in Dundalk. 7620 German Hill Rd, Dundalk, MD 21222

Legends Comics has gone out of business.

I would endorse Canton as being a good spot in the city.

A good spot that has a big space, but it is a good drive out of the city is Bel Air games. Lots of tables and lots of space.

Don't forget, you have to follow the two Prime Directives of any forum:

1. Don't resurrect a dead thread.

2. Don't repost. Ever.
