I'm heading to my beloved Wales in a couple of days, and am visiting Cardiff on Saturday.

I understand that the games shop in the arcade opposite the castle entrance is under new management? Can anyone give me a heads up on the quality and variety of games they now stock? I'm specifically thinking Wargames.

Cheers.

The new shop is actually in a different arcade to the old shop. It's still opposite the castle, but opposite a different bit of the castle.

Rules of Play
28 Castle Arcade

I've only been in the new shop a couple of times, and I don't think there were many wargames, but I wasn't looking for them. If its an issue, perhaps you should phone first.

Rules of Play is great but I don't think they have a whole load of wargames in stock. There's another new(ish) shop called Firestorm games that specialises in wargames (mostly table top miniatures ones I think). I haven't actually been there but it's somewhere behind central station (off Penarth Road I think)

I guess we should treat this as a compliment rather than as suggesting we're a pair of saddos who lurk on bgg waiting to pounce.

Just a quick clarification first - Rules of Play isn't the old shop under new management. It's an entirely new shop with little to do with the old one apart from selling the same kind of products.

That formality aside (and my apologies for it ) RoP is more of an Ameritrash thematic, CCG, Euro, Abstract board game shop with not so much in the wargame line at the moment. I think they have things like Battles of Westeros, Command and Colours and a few others bits but nothing approaching Squad Leader and Conflict of Heroes yet.

Firestorm Games does specialise in war games, but its the miniature based ones - Flames of War, Warmachine, Hordes and so forth, but if it's chit type wargames you're after there's nothing in Cardiff at the moment - though I believe (don't quote me on this) that Rules of Play is looking to expand into a few of them at some time in the future.

Still, that said - looking at your collection you'll probably find a few things that'll at least catch your interest at RoP.

Hope this helps.
Great stuff, thanks for the info.

I see he hasn't logged onto bgg since August 2nd. Maybe he's too busy running a Games Shop?

You see now I have to reply as I'm being quoted by name, so much for lurking on the forum.

In honesty I have been crazy busy in the store. Mtg and yu-gi-oh releases coupled with pre-ordering items for the weeks after Gencon, it's all been very busy.

Anyway: Wargames and rules of play.

The honest answer is we will attempt to get in anything you request. If you send me an email the week before you are visiting the area I can phone our distributors and find out whats available and the price then let you know, if you want it I'll order it in.

We have a variety of wargames in stock but as Fen said we stick to the mainstream ones such as Westeros, memoir 44, senji, starcraft, etc.

If there is ever anything different you would like just let us know.

We also have a gaming area downstairs so if ur ever looking for somewhere to meet up and play it's available.

Thanks,

Jake

Depends on your definition of main stream. I'd say that this is only main stream for gamers, not for the average Joe (or Owain, Dafyd, etc.)* So, what about Monopoly — Cardiff Edition? (No, don't stock it! I would not buy it). Then again, you do carry quite a selection of Carc and Settlers :shake: ;)

Can we get an 'I Love Rules of Play' microbadge?

We have tried to get a rules of play microbadge but it looks like you're not allowed to make microbadges for stores.

If anybody has any ideas about how to change this just let me know.

thanks,

Jake

In a way, I can understand this since it is a form of advertisement without any revenue for BGG: I mean, Amazon could start giving away badges just for the advertising opportunity. Maybe there should be some rule that, if you are a local game store with an actual playing area, you could get one. You know, help out local, independent stores and all.

(By the way, Jake, I've only had a chance to play A Touch of Evil solo, but so far it indeed looks like it was a good purchase.)

I'm glad you're liking touch of evil.

I agree with the comments regarding microbadges, maybe something will come up at some point. As far as amazon getting a microbadge it's no worse than them having their price ticker tape above games is frustrating, but what you gonna do.
