"Feudal Ops" is a complete re-theme of Nexus Ops.

"Feudal Ops" changes the game setting from one of science-fiction to one of warring medieval factions, and it does so without changing (or adding) any game rules. It is played using the rules from Nexus Ops.

I think this might be of interest to anyone who likes Nexus Ops but isn't crazy about the theme. I was inspired to create this re-theme after seeing Fernando Abad's "Lord of the Rings" re-theme and reading this related forum thread.

How Feudal Ops differs from Nexus Ops
• New backstory: In Feudal Ops, the players are medieval Lords vying for the King's favor. Whoever collects 12 Victory Points first will curry the King's favor and be named Baron of the region.
• Rubium has been changed to gold and silver (1 gold is worth 5 silver).
• Mines have been changed to settlements. Specifically, 1-point mines are now villages, 2-point mines are now towns, and 3-point mines are now cities.
• Energize cards are now called Influence cards.
• The text on all of the cards has been changed to fit the new theme.
• Terrain types and unit types completely changed (see below).

Terrain Types/Equivalents
• Liquifungus Forest has been changed to Keep.
• Crystal Spires has been changed to Woods.
• Rock Plains has been changed to Plains.
• Magma Pool has been changed to Monastery.
• Monolith hex has been changed to King's Hall.

Unit Types/Equivalents
• Human has been changed to Peasant.
• Fungoid has been changed to Footsoldier.
• Crystalline has been changed to Skirmisher.
• Rock Strider has been changed to Knight.
• Lava Leaper has been changed to Paladin.
• Rubium Dragon has been changed to Assassin (and the dragon breath special attack has been changed to a crossbow attack).

Later today I'll be posting pictures of my particular implementation of this re-theme (the pictures were just uploaded, but they need to be approved). If anyone likes the re-theme, they are welcome to create their own versions. Or perhaps this could inspire completely different re-themes of this excellent game.

Hm, so the Paladin is allowed to sit into a human catapult in order to be thrown two spaces when he starts his turn in a monastery?

He's on horseback, and charges, maybe?

The Paladin is a religious knight, presumably in a military order like the Templars, and he is not only mounted (as the pics will soon show), but his horse is of a better breed/quality than the typical knight's horse. Due to his religious zeal and devotion, the Paladin fights best in the Monastery (which is really just a shorthand term for any "church-held lands", which includes churches, cathedrals, convents, etc). Since he has the full financial and logistical support of the Church, he can move farther when he starts his move from one of these tiles. That's my justification for the bonus move, anyway.

OK, here are the pics.

These are from a digital game conversion I made to play the game online using Battlegrounds, a virtual tabletop program I created. The "Feudal Ops" conversion is not available for download at this time, and in fact, it will require a newer version of the software that has yet to be released (probably this weekend).

OK, I'm off to comment on each of the above pics.

It's certainly an interesting idea. Not sure if it's interesting in a good way....

I think it is a worthwhile venture. Knowing my game group, Feudal Ops would certainly make it to the table more often then Nexus Ops (assuming I owned either one). That said, Barley Hops is still king many game nights.

Love it!! I discovered this fantastic game much later than I should have because I was unimpressed with the weird sci-fi theme.

Thanks.

I posted the card text to the files section a couple of days ago, in case anyone wants to make their own set of cards, but it doesn't look like the file uploads have been approved yet.

If anyone would like to play Feudal Ops online (once the software is released later this week), geekmail me so that we can arrange a time and day. A microphone and voice chat software (Skype or Ventrilo) would be required, and knowledge of the Nexus Ops rules, as well. I'd love to get a 4-player game going.

I just released the digital game conversion of "Feudal Ops" for use in my Battlegrounds virtual tabletop software. Click here for details and to download the files.

I also released the latest version of the Battlegrounds software (v1.6i, downloadable from here), which is required to play Feudal Ops.

I wasn't too happy with the original Woods tile...

...so I created a new one which I think works much better.

Afraid not. I created all the graphics for on-screen use (72 dpi), so they are nowhere near print resolution.

Any chance of a PnP-release? I don't mind the feudal graphics even if low rez, as it cannot be worse than the regular editions migraine inducing tiles.

This game now has a new webpage, since I re-designed my website. You can now find it here.

The BGE software used to play this free-to-download digital game conversion is currently available at a reduced price for anyone who buys a license during this Kickstarter campaign (note that it ends in 19 days).
