I'm visiting Pittsburgh soon and would like to visit an FLGS, as there aren't really any in the UK. Anyone know of any good ones, or if there are any? Also, are there any in north NY area (not NYC). My friend lives about an hour from Rochester, and I'm going there after Pittsburgh.

Thanks,

Pe-ads

In terms of Rochester:

Millenium games and Hobbies in Henrietta, has a pretty good selection and is a fairly large storefront.

Crazy Egor's Discount Game Warehouse in Hilton, NY.

I used to work for the latter, it's a tiny shop in a small town but he has literally tons of out-of-print war games, avalon hill stuff, role playing materials, and all kinds of stuff. We used to get two kinds of customers: kids buying magic cards and serious collectors who would drop $1000+ in one go. He specializes in the rare / OOP stuff, but focuses on american games. Not too much in the way of Euros.

If you can be more specific with the area you're visiting I can help you out a bit more. I grew up on the West side of the city, so I know that area pretty well, but am less familiar with the East side.

I'm staying about 1 hour south of Rochester, but I'm not sure where in Pittsburgh (the west side?). I'm not really bothered where it is in Pittsburgh, though centre would be preferable.

Pittsburgh has a few options:

Games Unlimited on Murray Ave
Legions on Perry Hwy
Phantom of the Attic (don't know whee their new location is)

Legions is more RPG oriented, though does have some board games. PitA has the best selection of the three IMO.

There is also Gamemasters on Babcock Blvd, but I've never been there.

Phantom is still on N. Craig St, the games division just took the place of the comics division and the comics division moved across the street. Games Unlimited is a little less traveled, so sometimes you can find items there that have been sold out at other establishments.

I live about 40 miles south of Rochester.
Millennium is an excellent choice for boardgames.

Also depending on when you plan on being here, consider that every Wednesday is boardgame day at Millennium and we play there from 2PM in the afternoon until close at 11PM. We usually have 10-15 people attending, sometimes more.

And the Rochester Boardgame Society meets every 3rd Saturday at Millennium from 10AM to 11PM. You can game with 40-50 of us usually.

Millenium is definitely more accessible from the South. Crazy Egor's is about a 40 minute drive north from there, depending on how much you speed.

Another Pittsburgh option:

Mr. Nice Guy Games (in Oakmont)
http://www.mrniceguygames.com/

They play a lot of Magic/CCGs.
Kinda central/north of downtown.

Ithaca has a small FLGS, Providence Hobbies, not worth going out of your way for, but it's here. There's also a small comic book shop with some RPGs and board games in the back around the corner from it, and a few games at Alphabet Soup, all in or near the Commons.

Vestal/Binghamton is probably out of your way, but Jupiter Games in Vestal is a nice store. Syracuse has a store in the Carousel Mall. Auburn has a small store, Analog Hobbies on South St (Route 34), and I've heard, another one a block or two away that we haven't visited yet.

Millennium is nice, and if you enjoy thrifting, there are three thrift stores just behind it in the strip mall.

Thanks a lot guys! If there's a boardgame day at Millenium with discounts, I'll definitely have to try and go

I'm kind of into Euros and the like more, as opposed to CCGs, RPGs, and Ameritrash, though I have played some light wargames in my time.

Again, thinks. Tips all round!

Also, if you happen to be in Pittsburgh on the second weekend of the month. GASP (Gaming Association of Southwestern PA) meets on the second Saturday of every month at Legions.

Why haven't I ever seen this place?
I've driven through there hundreds of times.
Is it hidden, around back, no signage??
Look for Michael A's (Italian restaurant with a brick-red awning) and it's to the right. The place is indeed rather nondescript. There was a bridal place on the corner at one time, don't remember if it's still there now.
