I don't have any idea what half of it is but it looks great!

I think the points system is the most exciting thing. I hope that there will be a very open playtest of this for lots of balance testing.

What about bundling a map or two in as well? I know a lot of people, myself included, think it would be interesting to have some snow/winter maps. Just a thought -- it would be a great expansion with or without maps.

I'd probably be interested. But there doesn't seem to be much activity creating custom firefights, at least that I can see.

It would probably help if there were a tool available to design firefights and a place to post them when done. (Just a thought.)

By the way, for the ignorant (like me), what is the "unit points system"?

point system
hey !

the point system is a value table allowing you to compose your own force given a total of "points" at the beginning of the scenario. Each unit(platoon) or even company costs a given amount of points, that you spend and make up your own kampfgruppe

Say that you did design a firefight pitting the germans vs the soviets near Leningrad in 1941. You assign the germans -say- 80 points and the soviets 50 points + 3 infantry 1941 entrenched in the woods. The germans can choose between an infantry-heavy force or a more balanced combined force. The soviets can on the spot choose between a few anti-tank guns or get infantry plus that BA-6 recon car to ambush the advancing panzer they sure will expect... but will the german buy panzers ? It is a fact that you never really know what enemy units you will encounter.

The way I see it, points could even be used a variety guarantee in scenarios. For instance you might start with a set force, but will choose 30 points of reinforcements during turn 2.

The point values are a tricky thing to set. I presume it is a balance between the real cost of a unit and its rarity. If you want that heavy Ferdinand tank-destroyer, you'll have to pay dearly for it, because it was always a rare monster of the field. Then perhaps you cannot afford much accompanying infantry (reminds you of the real thing?). Video-games have been dealing with the point problem since the early days of the Panzer General series.

As for the non-channeled creativity, I wholly agree with you, Lewis. I suggested to Uwe that perhaps he would make a new section on his site with custom scenarios exchange forum/library. Perhaps a monthly best-scenario design contest (with goodies to win) ? I would certainly participate.

Hmmm. And how would you represent that at the tactical level? (Presumably if they'd made it to the battlefield they were in decent mechanical shape).

Alternative: in Air Assault on Crete you roll on a special table for combat involving heavy British armour, which I guess must have been pretty unreliable. The result either allows you to add the combat value of the heavy armor into the battle, or more frequently tells you there's no combat value to add. Perhaps a similar mechanic for the T-35s would result in an x% chance of the beast getting an 'immobilized' counter before any activation.

Pardon the off-topicness, but it would be bound to come up.

You are too good to us, Uwe....

Two of my favorites the Brumbar and Elefant.

(As an aside, this summer I actually got to see the Ferdinand at the Aberdeen Proving grounds... wow... much bigger in person.)
