Can anyone recommend a good game store in the Washington DC area?

I think the best option is the Compleat Strategist in Falls Church, VA, about a 15-minute drive from downtown DC. The store has a pretty good selection of games. The prices are pretty standard for a bricks-and-mortar retailer. The employees are usually playing miniature games and RPGs, and aren't particularly helpful. They also have a surprisingly good selection of wargames.

Reviews and contact information is available at http://www.yelp.com/biz/compleat-strategist-falls-church.

Hope that helps!

Yes, I think the Compleat Strategist is your only option. The reviews align with my memory of the place when I lived in the area 10 years ago or so.

The Game Parlor actually has two stores, in Chantilly and Woodbridge. Both have a lot of gaming space and are highly recommended.

In Maryland, Rockville's Dream Wizards is worth a visit.

There's also Game Vault in Fredericksburg. We're about 60 south but worth the visit. We have at least a couple hundred board games; the largest (or so I've been told) Flames of War section on the East Coast; a huge selection of 40K; Malifaux; Magic; singles for Magic, HeroClix, Monsterpocalypse. & D&D minis; a board game library with over 100 games to play in the store, and a great group of local players. We are closed on Mondays though.
