The problem with a good subject line is it leaves me out ideas for this area

I google mapped it and saw several shops. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Great Hall has open gaming on Friday nights and Saturday afternoon. They also have a great selection and a helpful staff.

Where will you be located (for work, hotel)? Will you have a car to get around? This might affect the answers...

I second the great hall games recommendation:

In South Austin, the South Austin Game Night on Tuesdays:

Adam Tucker had similar questions about Austin about six months ago & got some great responses in this thread.

As Len says, a lot depends on where you'll be & what your transport options will be. Both big gamestores have regular open gaming nights & there's a variety of game groups around town like SAG on Tuesdays and the Sunday afternoon group that meets every two/three weekends up on Palmer & Metric.

Regarding game shops, I highly recommend Dragon's Lair. They should have just about everything you're looking for. http://dlair.net/austin/

And if you happen to be in town next weekend, there's actually a charity gaming event you might be interested in checking out: http://givetogame.blogspot.com/
