Hello, I know I've seen someone praise their FLGS in Raliegh, NC (at least I think I did) but have been unable to "re-find" it. I'm going on a last minute visit to Raleigh in a week & thought I might try to visit the store (or maybe even 2 if there is more than 1!whistle) . I have no FLGS within an hour of my home in PA. cry

Any info anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! meeple

All Fun & Games in Apex, just outside of Raleigh, is good, too.

Lisa, welcome to Raleigh. I hope you enjoy your visit. There are three "main" game stores in and around Raleigh, so the one you choose will depend more on where you'll be visiting.

Game Theory (http://www.gametheorystore.com) is about 20 minutes northwest of downtown Raleigh not too far from Crabtree Valley Mall. The last time I was there they had a smaller board game selection than the other two area stores, but do more with miniatures, if that's your thing.

In a strip mall southwest of Raleigh, between Cary and Apex, again, about 20 minutes from downtown Raleigh, is All Fun and Games (http://www.allfunngames.com‎). As I recall, they have a good selection of board games and a large area in the back filled with tables.

Lastly, 20 minutes east of downtown Raleigh, near Knightdale, is Game Connection (http://www.thegameconnection.com‎). Game Connection is in a small strip mall space, but has a good selection of board games.

I have never stopped in at SciFi Genre (http://www.scifigenre.com‎) in Durham, about 40 minutes west of downtown Raleigh.

My favorite FLGS, Cape Fear Games (http://www.capefeargames.com) is actually in Wilmington, a couple of hours southeast of Raleigh at the NC coast. They seem to always be running a Magic tournament when I'm there, but they have the best selection of board games and the best prices for a brick & mortar store.

Good luck, and let me know if you need any other information.

If you need something to do while you are in the area there are many open game nights. The two that I can speak to from first hand experience are:

The Game Connection in Knightdale, NC mentioned above (right outside of Raleigh) has open family game night on Tuesday starting at 6. The crowd there is friendly and there are usually at least 4-5 games going.

The Apex store All Fun N Games has gaming on Thursday and that crowd is pleasant to game with as well. I think they also start at 6.

I live in Raleigh proper please feel free to GM if you need any other info.

If I remember correctly I'll be right off 40, by a Farmers Market facility. I recognize the name Crabtree Mall, I've been there before.I would be more interested in a good selection of board games rather than anything else. Plus it needs to be a place my sister in law can take me with out being scared!

Which of the places you listed would be closest to where I described? I'll try to remember more details about the location. Is Lake Wheeler Road right? I can visualize the area just no road names.

Thanks!

EDIT: Lake Wheeler Road not Wheeler Road

If you are going to be by the farmer's market near south Raleigh your best bet is probably to jump on I-440 and go to Cary/Apex. Either the Apex store All fun n games or the Cary proper store Gamer's Armory. Both have good selections and are in nice strip mall type shopping centers (not to scary and well maintained suitable for non gamer relatives).
