Hi gamers,

I'm going to Waltham, near Boston, for a few days, and would like to know if is there a good wargaming store in the Waltham/Boston area.

I'm planning to go to The Compleat Strategist, in Boston, but any recomendation will be well received.

Thanks in advance.

I actually bought my first wargame in Waltham some 37 years ago...unfortunately, that store has long since gone out of business.

I haven't been in since well before they moved, but for Waltham-specific, you could try

http://www.completegamester.com/index.htm

For other places in the area, you could try

http://www.hobbybunker.com/about
http://www.battlegroundgames.com/
http://www.whiznet.com

There's also another thread in this forum on the state of game stores in Boston, and how people seem to flock to New Hampshire instead.

I would not recommend The Complete Gamester. Their selection is poor and what they do have is typically above retail price. Now I haven't been there since they've moved, but a quick gland through their website makes me think things have not changed.

I do recommend looking through the referenced thread...most stores in the area are mentioned there.

I would recommend Games People Play in Cambridge. The have a decent wargame selection. People complain about the service, but it's a nice clean store with a fairly decent selection of games of all kinds.

Nick,

Thank you for the advise against The Compleat Strategist, I still probably am going there, but as a last resort, if the other recomedations fail completely.

My daughter already scheduled a visit at a Mall in Cambridge, so I probably can make it to the Games People Play store.

No no no...I was recommending against The Complete Gamester, not the Compleat Strategist (which is a fine store).

Just forget that other store. If you are hitting Compleat Strategist and The Games People Play, you'll be pretty happy.

For pure wargames, the Strat and Gasmes People Play are your best bets. I would not waste your time hunting down the other places.

I disagree, there are many store outside Boston that are worth checking out.

try 3 trolls its about 20 minutes north of Waltham.

the whiz in westboro and myriad games in NH.

Pandemonium has the best hours...but it is usually packed with yu gi yoh thugs, or Magic players.

Comicazi in Davis square also has a small game section and some nights they have boardgame groups.

The OP was looking for wargames. For non wargames I agree there are more options.
