I use the infamous GOB retail and have no problems with them. But why isnt there atleast one more? That one is in a ok location at best, near a mall but not right next door. How can rochester, shelby, royal oak, or somewhere like that not support one? I know BLue Dragon in sterling heights came and went. I also know the internet kills small retail, but still I feel like when I read the boards most other metro areas have atleast 2.

BTW Ann Arbor has 2-3 but that is NOT metro detroit.

Livonia has RIW Hobbies (riwhobbies.net)
Garden City has Pandemonium (pandemonium-online.com)
Wayne has Warriors 3 (warriors3.com)

Those are the ones I know about near me.

I would guess it to be directly related to the lack of affluence and disposal income in the Detroit area.

Economics is a bitch.

I assume it is due to the poor grammar of its denizens.

Let me say that of the three Doom Turtle mentions, I've been to the first two, and of the two, I'd recommend RIW. Pandemonium has somewhere between five and ten board games on display at any given time, three of which are always Munchkin, Settlers, and Carcassonne. My wife and I went to RIW on Saturday for the first time, and they had so many games I spent a good half-hour just walking around the store going, "Oh my God, they have so many games! Wife, look, that's a row of GMT games, a whole shelf of wargames! Look, wife, look at all the train games-- there are crayon rails, and 18XX games, and they have Martin Wallace games besides London, and Z-Man Games besides Pandemic and Agricola!" I didn't think such a place actually existed nearby, and was very happy to be wrong.

No, about economics and its bitchiness. Lack of jobs brings down affluence and disposable income, but it also brings down tax base, which severely damages school system budgets, causing poorer education. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Hmmm... Wonder if I should turn this into RSP-bait by giving my opinion on where Detroit went wrong?

there are zero game stores inside the metro perimeter of Atlanta. You have to drive 30-45 minutes from the city center to find any, and there are only 2 or 3 in the entire metro area that carry board games. the best store in the area is REALLY far and not in a location anyone I know actually considers "Atlanta". blah. brick and mortar game stores seem to be a dying breed, and realestate costs in dense urban areas chase them away from where the people are... soblue

How on earth is Shelby metro Detroit, but Ann Arbor isn't?

Boy are you missing out, between the Vault of Midnight on Main st., and Get Your Game On a few blocks away on State St, we are all set on gaming.
Thats not even mentioning Fun 4 All Games on Washtenaw.

Sometimes, I go to all 3 on lunch.

well, Ann Arbor is a forever away from my part of Metro Detroit. So is livonia, but its nice to know its there. GOB (despite its awful BGG history) does have great selection but its nice to have options.

Was my grammar in question? If so, I blame phone posting... whistle
