Any good board game shops in Montreal? I'm staying near the Hilton Bonventure, and unfortunately am totally French-illiterate (though I figured out "ouest" and "sortie" so far).

There's a place on St-Denis called Chez Geeks. English friendly.

Hi,
Since you're downtown there is Tour de Jeux, at the Eaton Center.
(food court level), but for better prices and a wider selection you can't beat Le Valet d' Coeur on St-Denis.

All these shop are great, especially Valet de Coeur (Mont-Royal/St-Denis) and Chez Geek only sell games in english (st-Denis/Ontario), but Chez Geek, the selection is less limited. But i usually use this website : http://www.starlitcitadel.com/ , based at Vancouver so no custom fee, and after 175$ the shipping is free and they got a HUGE selection. From now on they are my store, until I found one near.

I think this list basically covered it. I spend most of my game money at Tour de Jeux because I can walk to it from work (in the Eaton Center food court). They also know their stuff and can help you pick a game in almost any category. English or French, they've got you covered.

There is Gamer's Vault on Queen Mary street (across the street from Snowdon metro).

Also Face a Face in Verdun that stocks some BG's.
There is Carta Magica on St. Hubert and another on Decarie in Ville St. Laurent that has a small selection.

I would add, Boutique Stratégie on St-Denis corner Sherbrooke (http://www.strategygames.ca/). But don't miss Le Valet d'Coeur, it's in fact the distributor of most other boardgame store in Quebec. Their in store space is limited (and crowded) so if you don't find what you're looking for, ask someone, it might be on a backstore shelf or in the drawers under the storeshelves...

The Valet d'Coeur is also having a sale at the moment, it might be worth checking out just for that.

I second that. They have tons of stuff out of sight. You can also get an idea by browsing their website.

This is a very useful thread for peeps that need their printed games to hit store shelves! Fate of the Norns (1st Edition) just came back from the printer and we'll try and get it onto store shelves in Montreal (home town of FOTN). 20th anniversary celebrations are happening at:

We are running FOTN:R demos locally, check the FB page if you want to drop by! We'd love to see you!

Germangames.com

Best place to get boardgames.

Prices are much lower than Starlit Citadel and Valet de coeur and the shipping is 10$ no matter how many games you order!

It takes only 2 days to get my games in Laval.

Germangames is ran by a really nice guy to boot.

However, the OP wanted board game store suggestions in Montréal... and Sean's in Ontario.

The two I frequent are already on this list: Tour de Jeux (there are 3 on the island I've been to: the Eaton Center, Rockland Mall, and Pointe Claire mall); and also Carta Magica on Decarie in St-Laurent. You can expect to pay full retail at all of them (and a bit above retail at Tour de Jeux).

We are in the west of Montreal and use Chimera:
https://www.facebook.com/ChimeraGames

Loyalty cards, nice fellows, good selection and fair prices.

I don't believe price is everything when it comes to board games and having a bunch of folks who really know their stuff and are willing to shoot the breeze about it all is worth any small price difference.

They also have a good collection of games to try.

Just bringing this topic back from the dead ...

I know that Chimera closed this year ... RIP
And I frequent Chez Geek, Tour de Jeux...
I just found out about Face-a-Face on Wellington last month.

Also there is Gamerz Coop on St-Jean Boul in the west island.
And I forget the name, but a small place in Carrefour Angrignon, (near Target) that has many French copies of games also.

Any others we can add to the list?

It is "Le coin du Jouet". It is a toy store with a small but useful boardgame section. Not as big as Tour de Jeux' but still.

Right in front of Face-a-Face on Wellington is Game Keeper. From Wed-Sunday, they have a board game expert there, and other helpful people even on Monday-Tuesday. They organize play there, and it rarely happens I can't find a game there. Wellington has bi annual sales, and they participate, getting as much as 50% off the second game you buy, it can be worth checking out.

Just ordered from them for the first time yesterday, and the games arrived the same day for an excellent price. George was super pleasant and communicative. Couldn't ask for a better service!
