One wonders why this is necessary, although it doesn't bother me, I have to think that given the rest of the card to provide orientation, it seems unneeded.

On the upper left corner of the card, the number is always upside down. It could be confusing since both orientations are present on the card.

that and....

--it was mentioned that odd #-ed homeworlds are more military focused while the even #ed ones are more economy focused. Sure, you could just look at the red/blue, but (besides people who may be colored blind)...
--it does help having a # for each of them to account for them...
--and when setting up homeworlds (for 1 - 5)

Sometimes, the obvious things are among the easiest to miss.

Ok I was really hoping this thread was about the other dot - the brown one below the main circle on every "Rebel" world card. I can't find mention of it anywhere... does it mean anything???

In Rebel Cantina and Rebel Stronghold, I'm not seeing any "brown one"

Are you talking about the little red dot? That means its a Rebel world, like the green chromosome symbol on every Uplift world.

The circle bottom right of the world circle? As TerminusEst says that indicates that it's a rebel world. Whilst you already know it's a rebel world due to the keyword the symbol is used in various card powers such as Rebel Cantina's produce power.
