Well, of course most in here is in dutch

Does anyone know of a good store that sells board games in Amsterdam? I'm heading there in august, and would like to check out the selection and see if I can pick up some (maybe language-independent) games that aren't avaliable in Norwegian stores

Cheers!

Hei André.

Kan du ikke spørre Joan om det? Han drar flere ganger til Amsterdam i året, ikke sant?

The Gamekeeper is in the city center,on a 5 min.walk from Dam Square. The people who work there are very nice and helpful. Also, if you ask for a discount often you get one

Hi,

I was in Amsterdam last week and visited Gamekeeper.

It is a nice litle shop - however a large number of the games are in dutch

And thanks all!

Beklager! Jeg har aldri vært der selv. Lykke til å finne en annen butikk i Amsterdam. Jeg håper at du skal ha en god ferie.

Hilsen fra Nederland.

Apart from the 'American Book Center' (Spui 12) and 'The Gamekeeper', ( Hartenstraat 14),there is also a 'Games Workshop' (Rokin 36) which is only a 3min. walk from the Dam Square (which is smack-dab in the center of Amsterdam and 'Spellenwinkel Het Paard'(Haarlemmerdijk 173) But this is mostly Chess and Go (and a lot of books regarding these topics).

Gamekeeper, ABC and GWS are 'sort of' within walking distance of each other.... Spellenwinkel Het Paard is closer to the Central Station.

There is also a webshop that you can pickup games at. Or meet me somewhere for the games that you want.

It is all moot. I was too jetlagged and footsore so I just hung out at the zoo.

Don't feel too bad, I had a similar experience. Didn't hit a single museum I wanted to, or find the Vlaams Frites place that had 20+ sauces, or go to the Ajax soccer store/tour, all due to jet lag.

I DID manage to go to the Gamekeeper; nice place, and many games were multilingual, so that was a plus. It was also neat to hear the clerk/owner switch from German to Dutch to English at the drop of a hat. Prices were high, but I did manage to get a Dutch version of The Great Dalmuti to replace my worn out English one.

...which I highly recommend, by the way, mainly for the butterfly room and the aquarium. It's not like I was disappointed to go to the zoo instead of the game stores.

Also, is it normal for Amsterdam to be devoid of mosquitoes in June? It took me a few days to realise the city was nearly devoid of flying insects.

Maybe you didn't see any insects outside because they were all hanging out in the kitchen at the "steakhouse and pizzeria" I stopped in on Leidsestraat.

Either that, or they were all confused by it still being light outside after 10pm.
