Is it kosher to bring your own games to these stores with open tables?
I'm relatively new to this hobby/addiction, so forgive my naive questions.
Guild of blades in Madison Heights has a room with tables, but most of their events are geared towards mtg or warhammer. I will have to talk to Ryan there and see if he would be willing to host a dedicated boardgaming night.
Anybody have any thoughts on the idea of another monthly or bi-monthly gaming group somewhere in the metro Detroit area?
I was thinking in a library, church or community center.
The bigger the better.

Ron,

In the year or so that I have been doing this I haven't been to a store that discourages bringing your own games especially if they have the space. Many stores have open gaming days where if there is room among the RPG'ers and Miniature gamers, you are free to do as you wish.

Jeremiah
Though it would probably be good form just to call and ask permission first.

Currently struggling with being a hardcore father as well.
Soon enough Jim, you will have to carpool with me to some groups.

There's a monthly group (Lansing Board Gamers) meeting on 3rd Saturdays (except usually not in the same month as DaveCon, and sometimes it shifts a bit during MSU's football season so we avoid home game days).

There are various weekly groups affiliated with some of the local churches but I haven't been to any personally and can't vouch for them.

Now Dave, the solution to the only gaming until... problem is to buy the house down the street from me, then every day can be game day

Simple Jimmy. When you can't play games you read about them.

All the game stores do Friday Night Magic, so they have no room left for Boardgames. Of course, if you're offering to host...

Your geek mails to me are coming across as a bunch of letters and numbers. I replied saying so but got to thinking that maybe mine are as well.

I've been hosting a monthly game day at the Ferndale Library for over a year now. It is every second Saturday of the month and goes from 1-6pm. Usually the room is empty earlier than 1pm and some people have taken to arriving around noon to setup or start playing earlier and I am not one to persuade you otherwise. I bring around 30-50 games and everyone brings games as well. I like a light to medium weight euro, family friendly gateway games (to entice newbies), dexterity, some dice games, and random oddball games I find at thrift stores. Everyone brings what they like though and there's usually upwards of 70 games at any meeting. Lots of co-op, heavier euros, deckbuilding, etc. You get the gist. Sometimes kids and families will pop in so I bring kid-friendly games too. It's a big space, lots of natural light and plenty of tables and chairs. Check it out sometime!

I don't live in Michigan but often visit friends in SW Michigan near Paw Paw/Kalamazoo. I would be very happy to join in some weekend or holiday gaming day.

Checkout Fanfare Sports and Entertainment in the strip mall at Kilgore and Westnedge. While the store also sells trading cards and comic books, in addition to games, (both board and CCG) it has about 8+ tables that see a lot of gaming use.
