My wife is spending a week in Libertyville and Chicago, Illinois on business in September.

Since Board Games can be quite a bit cheaper in the US than the UK, I'm hoping to send her with a small wishlist - that is if there is any room left after she has bought all the American sweets (candy) on my daughter's list.

Unfortunately she will be limited to Retail Shops so I expect that prices would be naturally higher than online because of building/rent and sales tax. In that event there may not be a great saving over UK online but still it is worth looking.

So can anyone recommend any good Board Game shops in the city\area?

Cheers,

Nigel

Cat & Mouse Game Store
Chicagoland Games (a.k.a. Dice Dojo)
Pastimes (actually in Niles, just northwest of Chicago)

Any particular games she would be hunting for?

If you like the full line of hobby games AND wargames the store to go to is:

Games Plus
in Mount Prospect
http://www.games-plus.com/

none of the others are near as complete.

Haven't decided what I will ask for yet.

Mostly wargaming - GMT, Academy, Worthington, Lock n Load

Also possibly Descent and Memoir 44 stuff

She will be quite limited in what she can carry and getting about because she may not have a car and using taxis would probably wipe out any potential savings.

Think she will be limited to the Libertyville area, which is where business is and to Chicago city centre (downtown I think you guys call it) which she will visit.

Should add she is not a gamer herself so has no interest at all in such stores and would only be going as a favour to myself. She wonders whether it will be like Penny going into the comic book store in The Big Bang Theory - two of the customers having to get out their inhalers as she steps through the door! Unfortunately she doesn't quite have Penny's looks but don't tell her I said that

Cheers,

Nigel

Closest to Libertyville would definitely be Games Plus. They have one of the largest wargames section that I have seen in retail shops.

If she's limited to Libertyville and downtown Chicago, I'm afraid there won't be much to be had.

The 4 companies you name GP has fully stocked you should find most if not all of their in print catalogs.

An idea: Games Plus is right next to the train station in Mt Prospect so a direct line from downtown chicago's train station will take you right there.

They have a weekend ticket with unlimited ridding all weekend for $7
