Without a doubt - Games Plus deserves a visit. It has an incredible selection of miniature accessories, RPG items old and new, War games including a lot of ASL, most of GMTs in print products, plus a great variety of generally cool board games of all types.

Due west of Chicago (and due south of Games plus) in Downers Grove,IL is a nice store called Fair Game (http://fairgamestore.com/). It has a wide selection as well as very friendly people.

Then south of Fair Game in a town called Plainfield, IL is a store called The Wandering Dragon (http://wanderingdragon.com/) which is a terrific new store. The owner is really helpful and is always organizing special events and tournaments - its a very busy place!

Fair Game and Wandering Dragon are not NW, but you can start at Games Plus and take a trip south and visit them all pretty easily.

Yeah Games Plus has a GREAT Selection!

Also if you are closer to Schaumburg, Gaming Goat has a smaller selection, but a lot of events! Mostly a Magic The Gathering focus (I don't play that game) but the guys that work there are cool and friendly. (They have a location in Elgin too)

I agree with the comments and opinions of Games Plus in Mt. Prospect and The Gaming Goat in Schaumburg.

Keith's Komix in Schaumburg has a modest selection of board games, collectable card games and heroclix. Obviously, games are not their main focus, but they have 50 games or so to look at.

Gamers Paradise at Woodfield Mall carries a really good selection of euro-style games in the back of the store. Downsides: it's at the mall and they carry alot of terrible games that you have to bypass in order to get to the good ones.

Not really in NW suburbs, but Fair Game in Downers Grove is my favorite game store. Great store to bring the family to and sample games. Friendly and helpful staff. If you have the time, check them out.

Also, Chicagoland Games Dice Dojo http://www.chicagolandgames.com/ and Cat and Mouse Games http://catandmousegamestore.com/, both in Chicago might be of help.
