I live in Chicago, IL, in the area near Skokie and Evanston. Are there any good game stores in the area that don't involve going more than 20 or so miles?

Well, here are 4 threads with information and commentary ...

... Basically, it seems Games-Plus in Mt. Prospect is far-and-away the best place to go. I recently visited and was rather impressed (and I jaunted probably about 20 miles from my friend's house, which in itself is about a 300 mile jaunt).

Good luck, take lots of plastic.

Why leave the house? Weather.com says its 7 degrees in Chicago right now. All these stores come to you:

EDIT: Chris Shaffer, I was sort of kidding. If I had a good FLGS to hang out, it'd certainly beat shopping online. I would love to browse Eurogames in person rather than with my mouse. And after living in Hyde Park for 4 years, I definitely know what you mean about how cold it can get, especially with the wind coming off the lake.

Because it's only a 30-45 minute drive to Mt. Prospect, and there's more to your Friendly Local Game Store than sale prices. The good stores, like Games Plus, support the local gaming community.

Also, 7 degrees Farenheit isn't that bad for December in Chicago.

I sure wish I had a FLGS. A new one is opening in Iowa City next week, and I'll definitely be going to visit. If they're good and the games aren't too overpriced, I can already predict my purchases from Thoughthammer and Boulder Games will slow, despite that fact that both companies have treated me well.

Edited to note that I used to live in Chicago, and only the lack of a car kept me away from Games Plus. The few times I was able to visit, I was impressed.

Games Plus in Mt. Prospect is fantastic and really is everything you're probably looking for. It's right near the Metra stop if you don't want to fight traffic. Absolutely worth the trip (and I live in LaGrange).
