I wrote a review of Fresco a while back that was mostly negative. It was based on 5 or so plays of the game. I decided to dust off the game and give it another whirl or two. My opinion in the review was unfairly negative. We had a great time playing this game and look forward to another play of it. The collection of cubes to turn in for the restoration of the cathedral ceiling reminds me quite a bit of Caylus, but lighter of course. I still would rather play something else with only two players since I do not care for the dummy player that much. But with 3 or 4, Fresco is a darn good game. High marks, also, for the theme coming through so well.
I think my problem with Fresco is that it is simply a good game. There is nothing that makes it stand out. I have quite a small collection and it still struggles to get played. Also, I am pessimistic about its longevity as well as it seems to be continuing its slide down the rankings. My wife likes it though so I think I'll try to get a play or two in over the holidays to see if my opinion changes.
