Stat Tracking
Dbzer0 has built some stat tracking into OCTGN pluggin for us this tournament. It requires that you follow this convention while naming you games in OCTGN.

BGG Tournament 2, Round [Round #]: [USER1] VS [USER2] - Match [Match #]

examples:
BGG Tournament 2, Round 1: Shobalk VS Byronczimmer - Match 1
BGG Tournament 2, Round 1: Shobalk VS Byronczimmer - Match 2

-----------

February 3rd 2013
Tournament brackets have been finalized! You may begin scheduling your matches, and start playing them on Tuesday February 5th. A couple important notes:

- If you do not hear from your opponent by Thursday, please contact the TO's. We will attempt to contact them. Failing that, we will start tapping the sub-list.

- Friday (or Saturday if needed), we will officially lock the bracket. The rosters will be locked. At that point and the tournament will proceed as normal.

Top 10 finishers in the first tournament that are playing in this tournament (you've been warned ):

Malefact - 28.0 (Won the swiss & tournament final)
Orange Devil - 26.0
fabianfritzer - 23.0
hollis - 22.0
jopejope - 20.0
hobb3 - 20.0
kobold47 - 20.0
sydwys8 - 20.0
kingjames01 - 18.0
AstroLad - 18.0

Round 1 is in the books! Thank you everybody for participating. Round 2 starts now!

February 19th 2013
Round 2 is in the books! There will be a slight delay in kicking over the US bracket.

On the European side, this round had a flawless participation rate. Thank you very much! We're starting to see a few familiar faces at the top of the bracket.

On the US side, we had quite a few dropped players including: AlexFrog, echomancer, SneakySly, Quidam, Bins, & david_prophet. It is too bad that these players occupied slots that could have been filled by willing participants from the lengthy substitution list.

Quite a few new faces a top the US side of things, but there are some familiar as well

Good luck in round 3!

February 26th 2013
Round 3 is in the books! We're halfway complete with the swiss portion of the tournament. Top 16 advance to the finals.

We had a couple drops across the board for various reasons. Hopefully everybody remaining races to the finish for the coveted OCTGN Geekbage!

Good luck in round 4.

Tournament F.A.Q.

Why is attendance capped at 64 per division?
As the number of participants increases, so too does the time commitment required by the Tournament Organizers (TOs) and Tournament Assistants (TAs). Increasing the number of participants is anticipated to increase the time commitment the TOs/TAs need to dedicate to adjudicating scheduling issues and player disputes. This event is already double the size of the previous tournament.

If I am on the wait list will I be able to participate in the tournament?
It's possible. For the first few days, players will need to coordinate with their opponents. If players are non-responsive, they will be removed from the tournament and replaced from the wait-list on a case by case basis. Because Challonge does not allow us to swap in players after the bracket launches, the brackets will not be 'started' in Challonge until mid-way into the first week. Players on the wait-list will be contacted in order of sign up if these opportunities present themselves and will need to be replied to as soon as reasonably possible. Once the Challonge bracket is launched for the first round, no further swap-ins will be possible and players who drop out or are ejected will not be replaced.

How are pairings determined?
For the Swiss pairings, Challonge's algorithms will be used. Challonge compares your match score (Prestige points) but does NOT tie-break based on accumulated Agenda points, instead defaulting to a modified strength of schedule. This is being deemed as 'close enough' for the Swiss Pairings. Final scores will be examined for determining the best 16 in each division which will then be put into the single elimination bracket.

How will the final be handled?
The a single elimination final will consist of the top 16 players from both Europe and U.S. (32 total). The bracket will look like this: http://challonge.com/mockcombined/module

Something I don't understand.

Quote:
Tournament brackets have been finalized! You may begin scheduling your matches, and start playing them on Tuesday February 5th.

Quote:
- Friday (or Saturday if needed), we will officially lock the bracket. The rosters will be locked. At that point and the tournament will proceed as normal.

If people start playing on Thursday, and the bracket is locked one or two days later, doesn't it mean that if there's a drop-out in-between, it will shuffle the swiss pairings so that the players are no longer playing together the first week?

Challonge allows us to drag a participant up into the bracket to 'replace' a drop out, but requires that we restart the tournament to do so. For this reason, we will not be recording any scores until after the official 'lock'

So no shuffle will occur, it will be a 1:1 replacement.

Once the tournament gets its first round locked in, we cannot do this any more, which is why it is critical that the TOs know by Thursday if someone cannot participate.

Also note that the final cutoff and lock in for the brackets coincides perfectly with the last day to sign up for the US overflow tournament. So if you're in the US and don't make it into the tournament by Friday, feel free to sign up for the overflow tournament so that you can still play some games.

Signups and info can be found here:

If the following three names are not 100% identical:

Challonge-ID : BGG-ID : OCTGN-ID

Please post to the CHATTER thread: OCTGN Netrunner Tournament 2: Chatter

Your three IDs in the above format (and indicate which division you are in).

We will be collating these IDs and posting them in one of the reserved sections to make it easier to find your opponents.

Thank you.

For the US BRACKET:

Please indicate via geekmail to me if your pairing for round one HAS or HAS NOT changed.

If I can find the dividing line (aka the opponent of the person who dropped from Challonge without telling us), I can repair this by swapping in the first wait-listed person (or putting a dummy player in temporarily).

Please do this today, I just need to know your challonge ID and if your opponent HAS or HAS NOT changed in the subject line. I will not be reading the body of the geekmails for these communications:

Subject line of geekmail: [challonge ID] changed (opponent is [name])
-or-
Subject line of geekmail: [challonge ID] DID NOT change (opponent is [name])

Thank you.

Status Update:
Match - status
A-D presumed no change
E no change
F-S
T change
U+ presumed changed

meaning that "seed" 38-51 is the one that dropped.

-=-=-

Update:
We've made a GUESS at which person dropped out, so I also need to know who your opponent is when you check in Challonge, since we've changed the state.

Please indicate your opponent in the geekmail and whether or not it's correct.

We're homing in on this.

-=-=-

Update:

We've narrowed down our dropout to seeds 39 or 40.

Should know once Zhab tells me who he thinks his opponent SHOULD be.

-=-=-

Final Update - we figured out who dropped without informing us and have repaired the brackets.

PLEASE DO NOT DROP IN CHALLONGE IF YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE - CONTACT THE TOs AND WE WILL HANDLE IT

WAITLISTED PLAYERS
If you are on the Waitlist and are available to be swapped in please...

1) Geekmail your bracket coordinator
US: byronczimmer
EUR: shobalk

2) With the following subject line
[yourChallonge/yourBGG] available on wait list

yourChallonge: Your Challonge ID
yourBGG: Your BGG ID if it is different from your Challonge ID

Persons sending such a geekmail MUST be on the wait list in Challonge (but you can still go put your name on it if you want).

ONLY people sending the above will be considered for swapping in.

Wait list swap-ins will be handled in order of sign up on Challonge, regardless of the order the above geek mail is sent.

I recommend doing this by 6pm (US Eastern) today (07 Feb 2013) for the US bracket, as sometime after that is when I will be swapping out all non-responsive players.

ACTIVE TOURNAMENT PLAYERS

If your opponent has been non-responsive and you have not been able to schedule your match, please do the following:

1) Geekmail your bracket coordinator
US: byronczimmer
EUR: shobalk

2) With the following subject line
[yourChallonge/yourBGG] unable to contact [opponentID] for game [gameID]

yourChallonge: Your Challonge ID
yourBGG: Your BGG ID if it is different from your Challonge ID
opponentName: Your opponent's Challonge ID
gameID: Your game identifier (a single or double letter indicating your match) (this makes it easier to find you on the Challonge board)

Please do this by 6pm (Timezone: US Eastern) today (07 Feb 2013) for the US bracket, as some time after that is when I will be swapping out non-responsive players.

Please do this even if you've already notified the TOs of a non-responsive opponent just to make sure. The above formatted geekmail will make things easier to handle.

-=-=-

If you send such a geekmail and later make contact, please send the following subject:

[yourChallonge/yourBGG] MADE CONTACT WITH [opponentID] for game [gameID]

Which will indicate to the bracket coordinator to not take action on that pairing.

-=-=-

We are getting a lot of non-responsive players. EVERY player should attempt to contact their opponent unless you've already done so and/or played your first round game.

Hopefully things will settle down once we get past this initial start-up period.

After a power outage and a few crashes...

The following swap outs have been made:

Game B: Resolved before swap outs made
Game H: Zhab is now playing against coroner
Game P: Hollis is now playing against redtail
Game U: Zeromus voluntary drop out; Alexfrog swapped in against Quarashi
Game AF: The Tick is now playing against AndrewRogue

If there are additional swap outs, I'll be doing so from those who have notified me in geek mail that they are available, in the order listed on the waitlist.

Good luck replacements, thank you for being available.

Congratulations on getting through round 1...

Things should be a lot more stable now.

Please try to contact your opponent by Wednesday night of each round and report to your respective TO (Shobalk for EUR, Byronczimmer for USA) if you are having difficulty scheduling your match. We note down difficulties so that if there are disputes later we can adjudicate them.

Please do NOT report your scores in Challonge - almost every attempt to do so was incorrect, and it does not give your opponent an opportunity to verify the match score. Instead, please post in the tournament reporting geeklist and the TOs (or their very able TAs) will do the data entry.

Good luck in your round 2 matches!

It is Thursday and I have received no notices of scheduling difficulties and one query if a Monday night schedule is 'ok' (answer: it is).

If you have not made positive contact with your opponent to discuss scheduling your Rd2 match, please contact your division coordinator (EUR: Shobalk, USA: byronczimmer) by evening today (Thursday).

Otherwise, have fun with your games and good luck!
