Having played two games with the family rules we decided that the game was way to easy and the step up to the experience level wouldn't make a difference and we would still save all 10 people in the house and leave the walls intact. Oh, how wrong we were.

My wife was responsible for identifying the Victims (Imaging Technician) and treating them (Paramedic) while I was the one taking care of the fire (CAFS Firefighter and Driver/Operator). Our plan seemed perfect. The Technician identifies all the Victims while the CAFS Firefighter and the Paramedic roam inside the house to get to them together. The Engine drives around the house putting out the fire in the quadrants unoccupied by the rest of the team. Nothing can go wrong, right?

Wrong. First of all, the fire must have been ignited by a specialist pyromaniac who knew exactly where all the hazardous materials have been kept in the house. All three initial explosions happened right next to the chemicals. Our Technician quickly identified all the Victims only to find out that two of them were false alarms and we had to look further. To our surprise, three family members decided to hide in the narrow corridor in the middle of the house, surrounded by fire in all the neighboring rooms. This had to lead to a disaster.

Although the Engine Driver managed to control the fire with two successful deck gun shots and the CAFS Firefighter paved the way for the Paramedic to rush into the corridor to save the Victims, the next explosion was a big one. It hit a hot spot, creating a shockwave that damaged one of the walls and hit the Hazmat, sending the shockwave the other way, destroying the wall and busting one of the door open. Then came another bang just next to the previous one and suddenly there were three instead of one entries to the corridor from the room filled with fire.

Despite the risk, the Paramedic and the Firefighter rushed into the corridor to save the Victims while the Engine Driver tried to keep the fire away. Even the Imaging Technician helped extinguish the fire with his limited resources. The Paramedic reached the first Victim, which was the family cat and headed towards the ambulance. By the time the next explosion came she was a safe distance away from the corridor. The CAFS Firefighter wasn't as lucky and got Knocked Down but miraculously managed to find his way back to the ambulance.

There was no time to lose. They both rushed back into the corridor but the fire was getting stronger by the second. They could feel the walls wouldn't hold much longer. Based on their experience they knew five more damaged walls meant the house was coming down. On their way inside they saw the father unconscious in one of the rooms. There was nothing they could have done. The Paramedic ran to find the wife still alive. She treated her and started leading her to the ambulance when another blow struck. The Paramedic got knocked down and the wife got engulfed by the flames and she was lost.

The walls started creaking and the team understood that they had to leave if they wanted to save themselves. They ran through the nearest hole in the wall just before the building collapsed, leaving nothing but smoldering debris behind.

At least the cat was safe. Thankfully, this was all a recruit simulation and the firefighters can learn from their mistake before embarking on a real-life mission next time.

Good read, only I usually make sure that I leave the cat until last.

Also, the initial explosions should be placed BEFORE placing the hazardous materials. This would have made a big difference on that game.

I like the combination of firefighters that you used. It's hard for me to not include the Captain in my games, especially when I play it solo.

Last time I played, my girlfriend wanted to drop the dog she was carrying to safety and save the cat that was just revealed instead....I said, you know if the situation was reversed the dog would try to save you, the cat would be in it for itself.

Thanks for all the kind posts. Flash Point is at this moment one of my favorite games so if we have some more interesting plays I will gladly describe them.

@Steve - Yes, we played it the way you described. I should've written that the hazardous materials were discovered right next to the initial explosions. Still, the rolls we got right at the beginning of the game exploded the Hazmats as well

We honestly thought that our combination of specialists was a decent one but maybe it is better to have the Captain there.

Great session report.

During our first game using the family rules my wife and I were desperate to save the cat..unfortunately an explosion cut that search short. Amazing game, it really invokes emotions trying to save these victims.

We came so close to winning our first recruit level advanced game just now, but the roof collapsed. That's been the way we've lost our first 4 games so far. Once we had 3 victims deceased, nearly losing that way but still lost to the structure giving way.

Great game! Very involving, much more than Pandemic ever did for us. We have the 2 expansions waiting in the wings too. Awesome.
