[User Summary]
The Balloon Fight games are relatively low on the radar games which imitate the basic gameplay of the classic arcade game Joust. Instead of riding an ostrich, the protagonist is carried by two balloons. The goal in the games vary, but most often the player attempts to pop enemies' balloons without having their own balloons popped, which will send them to their doom.
There have been two major incarnations of the Balloon Fight games: the original game, Balloon Fight, which first appeared in arcades as Vs. Balloon Fight but soon after attained greater prominence as a Famicom and NES game; and Balloon Kid, a Game Boy game produced by legendary game and console designer Gunpei Yokoi. Each of these games has a number of ports and variations, some of which are intensely faithful; others taking a looser approach in their adaptation, even featuring such characters as Hello Kitty or gag characters from other Nintendo franchises.
