Fable is a series of action role-playing games set in the fictional land of Albion which at the time of the first game is composed of numerous autonomous city-states, vast areas of countryside, and wilderness. The setting originally resembled medieval England (Albion is the oldest name for Great Britain), however with each game time progresses and in Fable II the land has advanced to an era similar to the Age of Enlightenment. In Fable III the nation has been unified under a monarchy and is undergoing an "Age of Industry" similar to the real-world 19th-century Industrial Revolution.
Each game follows a Hero of Albion or his incarnations as they help or terrorize the land. The choices the player makes in the game affect the appearance, perception, and reaction to their Hero by the NPCs of Albion and change the Hero's appearance to mirror what good or evil deeds he/she has performed. With each feat of strength the Hero's body will increase in muscle while with each act of gluttony the Hero will appear more bulbous and flabby. Exposure to the sun will make the Hero tan and battle wounds will become scars.
