The term "Zoanthrope" used in the game for the anthropomorphic characters came from the clinical term, 'zoanthropy', which is similar to lycanthropy but without the mind-set of a wolf.
A manga adaptation of the series was drawn by Maruyama Tomowo and was originally published in Monthly Shōnen Jump. It featured some themes from the games but the scenarios and characters used were completely new despite a few resembling those from the games. It was later published in two volumes in 2001.
